Vendor: Books2door.com Price: 14.99 £ (+2.99 £)Titles in This Set: 1. Prisoners of Geography 2. The Power of Geography Description: Prisoners of Geography All leaders are constrained by geography. Their choices are limited by mountains, rivers, seas and concrete. Yes, to follow world events you need to understand people, ideas and movements - but if you don't know geography, you'll never have the full picture. If you've ever wondered why Putin is so obsessed with Crimea, why the USA was destined to become a global superpower, or why China's power base continues to expand ever outwards, the answers are all here. The Power of Geography Tim Marshall's global bestseller Prisoners of Geography showed how every nation’s choices are limited by mountains, rivers, seas and concrete. Since then, the geography hasn’t changed. But the world has. In this revelatory new book, Marshall explores ten regions that are set to shape global politics in a new age of great-power rivalry: Australia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Greece, Turkey, the Sahel, Ethiopia, Spain and Space. Find out why Europe’s next refugee crisis is closer than it thinks as trouble brews in the Sahel; why the Middle East must look beyond oil and sand to secure its future; why the eastern Mediterranean is one of the most volatile flashpoints of the twenty-first century; and why the Earth’s atmosphere is set to become the world’s next battleground.

The Future of Geography Spy satellites orbiting the Moon. Space metals worth billions. Humans on Mars within our lifetimes. This isn’t science fiction. It’s astropolitics. We’re entering a new space race – and it could revolutionise life on Earth. Space: the new frontier, a wild and lawless place. It is already central to communication, economics, military strategy and international relations on Earth. Now, it is the latest arena for human exploration, exploitation – and, possibly, conquest. We’re heading up and out, and we’re taking our power struggles with us. China, the USA and Russia are leading the way. From physical territory and resources to satellites, weaponry and strategic choke points, geopolitics is as important in the skies above us as it is down below. If you’ve ever wondered if humans are going back to the Moon, who will benefit from exploration or what space wars might look like, the answers are here. With all the insight and wit that have made Tim Marshall the UK’s most popular writer on geopolitics, this gripping book shows how we got here and where we’re going, covering great-power rivalry; technology; commerce; combat in space; and what it means for all of us down here on Earth. This is essential reading on power, politics and the future of humanity.

Hans Baer Rheinessen Riesling Troken 2023 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75
Vendor: Svinando.co.uk Price: 1.45 £ (+0.69 £)Rheinessen, for lovers of geography, translates as Rhine Hesse and is the largest wine-growing region in Germany. It lies to the south of the Rheingau, along the course of the Rhine River. The proximity of the river plays an essential role in the ripening of the grapes, which, despite a rather harsh climate, manage to reach full maturity, resulting in simply extraordinary wines. The most important grape variety in the region is undoubtedly the Riesling, which is presented here in Hans Baer's interpretation. The word 'Troken' indicates that it is a dry wine, even though, by style, German Rieslings can have a slight residual sugar. This is particularly pleasant in a Riesling, as it slightly counteracts the strong natural acidity of the grape variety. Vinified only in stainless steel, this Riesling presents itself in the glass in a beautiful, light straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. The nose stands out for the freshness of its aromas reminiscent of ripe fruit (but not too much) and in particular white peach, lime and kiwi. In the mouth it is very consistent and balanced, without lacking in freshness and vivacity. Excellent as an aperitif, it is the wine to open to accompany a fine fish-based dinner. Shellfish and crustaceans... Simply perfect!

Tim Marshall Collection 3 Books Set - Non Fiction - Paperback Elliott & Thompson Limited
Vendor: Books2door.com Price: 24.99 £ (+2.99 £)Titles in This Set: 1. Prisoners of Geography 2. Worth Dying For: The Power and Politics of Flags 3. Worth Dying For: The Power and Politics of Flags When you see your nation’s flag fluttering in the breeze, what do you feel? For thousands of years flags have represented our hopes and dreams. We wave them. Burn them. March under their colours. And still, in the 21st century, we die for them. Flags fly at the UN, on the Arab street, from front porches in Texas. They represent the politics of high power as well as the politics of the mob. From the renewed sense of nationalism in China, to troubled identities in Europe and the USA, to the terrifying rise of Islamic State, the world is a confusing place right now and we need to understand the symbols, old and new, that people are rallying round. In nine chapters (covering the USA, UK, Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa, Latin America, international flags and flags of terror), Tim Marshall draws on more than twenty-five years of global reporting experience to reveal the histories, the power and the politics of the symbols that unite us – and divide us.
