Bosworth 1485: The Battle that Transformed England
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 21.00 $A lively and authoritative reinterpretation of the Battle of Bosworth Field, where the Wars of the Roses ended and the Tudor dynasty began. On August 22, 1485, at Bosworth Field, Richard III fell, the Wars of the Roses ended, and the Tudor dynasty began. The clash is so significant because it marks the break between medieval and modern; yet how much do we really know about this historical landmark? Michael Jones uses archival discoveries to show that Richard III's defeat was by no means inevitable and was achieved only through extraordinary chance. He relocates the battle away from the site recognized for more than 500 years. With startling detail of Henry Tudor's reliance on French mercenaries, plus a new account of the battle itself, the author turns Shakespeare on its head, painting an entirely fresh picture of the dramatic life and death of Richard III, England's most infamous monarch. 8 pages of B&W illustrations

The Bosworth Psalter (Classic Reprint)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 20.03 $Excerpt from The Bosworth Psalter: An Account of a Manuscript Formerly Belonging to O. Turville-Petre, Esq. Of Bosworth Hall, Now Addit; Ms. 37517 at the British MuseumOn the conversion of England St. Augustine, coming from Rome itself, naturally brought into the country with him the recension then in use in the Eternal City; namely the Roman. Thus the celebrated Cotton ms. Psalter Vespasian A 1 in the British Museum is almost certainly a very early copy, made in England, of the actual book of the psalms, which the apostle of our race is known to have brought to Canterbury. According to the description given by the monk Elmham this volume was kept on the high altar at St. Augustine's monastery, Canterbury, as a precious memorial of the saint. The version is the Roman throughout, and so too is that of another ms. Psalter in the British Museum (royal ms. 2. B. Which has been attributed to Winchester and is supposed to have been written in the first' half of the tenth century.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Battle of Bosworth 1485: and the Burial of King Richard III (Bretwalda Battles)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 48.36 $The recent discovery of the body of King Richard III in Leicester has heightened interest in this key medieval battle. The climatic battle of the Wars of the Roses was fought in Leicestershire in the summer of 1485 when the Lancastrian claimant Henry Tudor faced the Yorkist king, Richard III. The battle ended with King Richard surrounded and cut down by his enemies - the last British king to die in battle. Now the king's body has been found in Leicester and is due to be reburied in the city as the centrepiece of a new interpretation of the battle and the Wars of the Roses. Richard III is one of the best known of English kings, chiefly through his portrayal by Shakespeare as an evil crouchback who murdered his nephews (The Princes in the Tower), his brother and others - and the more recent efforts to restore his reputation. This book follows the standard pattern set by others in the Bretwalda Battles series. The reasons for and course of the war in question are outlined, then detailed analyses of weapons, tactics and strategies are given with particular reference to this battle. The course of the battleis then followed, with comment on what there is to see at the site today. Short biographies of the commanders are also given. The aftermath of the battle, its effects and importance to the progress of the war are then described. The "Bretwalda Battles" series has been running with increasing success as ebooks for some time. Now the first books in the series are being published in print format.

Barbara Bosworth: The Heavens
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 246.48 $A follow-up to her successful 2015 book The Meadow, this project focuses on Boston-based photographer Barbara Bosworth's (born 1953) images of the moon, sun and sky. Made over the past several years with an 8x10 camera, the star images are hour-long exposures with the camera mounted on a clock drive so that the stars are rendered as dots instead of streaks. The sun and moon images are made with a telescope attached to Bosworth's camera.Speaking of her inspiration for these series, Bosworth writes: "Every clear night of the summer my father would go out for a walk to look at the night sky. Many nights I would join him. We knew the North Star, and the Big Bear, but the rest became our own. At times we stood still for an hour or more to watch for shooting stars. We had no agenda. It was all about amazement at a sky full of stars. With this sense of wonder, I began making photographs of the Heavens. In these days of the Hubble Telescope and its spectacular imagery from deep space, I wanted a reminder of the mystery of our own night sky."The book also includes facsimile editions of three artist's books that Bosworth has made as a nod to Galileo's 17th-century publications in which he first observed the skies through a telescope.
