Gospel of Free Acceptance in Christ
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 101.27 $Recent decades have seen a renewal of interest in the central message of the Christian gospel among contemporary New Testament scholars. 'New perspectives' on Paul's doctrine of justification have emerged and are being offered to the church. This book has been written out of the conviction that Protestant churches need to reacquaint themselves with their rich doctrinal heritage, particularly their understanding of the gospel- the good news of free acceptance with God on the basis of Christ's redeeming work. Before abandoning the 'older perspective' on Paul in favour of the new, evangelical Christians need to understand exactly what it is they are being asked to abandon. Furthermore, evangelicals must take a careful look at the claims of those who propose a newer and ostensibly 'better' reading of the apostle's letters. The newer perspective on Paul makes bold claims for itself, some of which may be rather appealing in an age that favors change and has grown weary with the battle lines of ancient and bitter debates. The newer perspective on Paul demands careful study and assessment, for at stake is nothing less than the gospel itself. In this study the reader will find: A summary of the older perspective of the Reformation (which understood justification to be the gospel's declaration that sinners are acceptable to God by the grace of Christ alone) A general introduction to what is known as the 'new perspective' on Paul A critical assessment of new perspective claims from both a biblical and a theological standpoint.

Beautiful Eyes: A Father Transformed
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 21.14 $Through parenting a child with a disability, a father discovers patience, acceptance, and unconditional love. In 1987, Paul Austin and his wife Sally were newlyweds, excited about their future together and happily anticipating the birth of their first child. He was a medical student and she was a nurse. Everything changed the moment the doctor rushed their infant daughter from the room just after her birth, knowing instantly that something was wrong. Sarah had almond-shaped eyes, a single crease across her palm instead of three, and low-set ears―all of which suggested that the baby had Down syndrome.Beginning on the day Sarah is born and ending when she is a young adult living in a group home, Beautiful Eyes is the story of a father's journey toward acceptance of a child who is different. In a voice that is unflinchingly honest and unerringly compassionate, Austin chronicles his life with his daughter: watching her learn to walk and talk and form her own opinions, making decisions about her future, and navigating cultural assumptions and prejudices―all the while confronting, with poignancy and moving candor, his own limitations as her father. It is Sarah herself, who, in her own coming of age and her own reconciling with her difference, teaches her father to understand her. Time and again, she surprises him: performing Lady Gaga’s "Poker Face" at a talent show; explaining how the word "retarded" is hurtful; reacting to the events of her life with a mixture of love, pain, and humor; and insisting on her own humanity in a world that questions it. As Sarah begins to blossom into herself, her father learns to look past his daughter’s disability and see her as the spirited, warmhearted, and uniquely wise person she is.

Attach Me If You Can
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 23.13 $Paul Tournier stated: "At the heart of personality is the need to feel a sense of being lovable without having to qualify for that acceptance." In 1975 when I started seeing children in therapy at the Grand Rapids Child Guidance Clinic in Grand Rapids, Michigan it seemed like the major problems with children consisted of acute traumas caused by sudden tragedies like house fires, car accidents and abuse issues. Then there were the lesser problems of separation anxieties, night terrors, bed wetting and oppositional defiance. By the time I transitioned from the clinic to Head Start in 1998, most of the problems seemed much more serious. I found children who displayed little to no conscience, kids who could not make friends and many who exhibited violent rage reactions. What happened in less than a quarter century? It became more and more clear to me that parents and children were losing the capacity to attach to each other. I went on my personal campaign (and still am) lecturing about rage and the consequences of a lack of attachment. I approached the attachment problem not from the perspective of who's at fault but what do we do about it! The teachers and parents attending the lectures kept asking me to put what I covered into a book and after many years I finally forced myself to sit long enough to write it. My goal is that the pages of this book will provide hope and techniques on how to help children attach, feel safe, and ultimately act lovable. The conviction of being lovable is what defuses all the rage and fear. Mr. Hamberg is a licensed clinical social worker and a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Michigan. He has thirty-six years of experience in the treatment of emotional problems with children and families, specializing in the very young child.
