This work completes a five-volume Hebrew and Aramaic vocabulary of the Old Testament. Constituting the Aramaic part, the vocabulary is recorded as closely as possible to the meaning and its various nuances. The main emphasis lies in the parts of speech (verbs, substantive prepositions and numerals) as well as on first names, place names and regional names. The old translations, such as the Septuagint, the Vulgate, the Targums and the Syriac version are considered as well as the Hebrew-related Semitic languages.

For the first systematic investigations of the theory of cluster sets of analytic functions, we are indebted to IVERSEN [1-3J and GROSS [1-3J about forty years ago. Subsequent important contributions before 1940 were made by SEIDEL [1-2J, DOOE [1-4J, CARTWRIGHT [1-3J and BEURLING [1]. The investigations of SEIDEL and BEURLING gave great impetus and interest to Japanese mathematicians; beginning about 1940 some contributions were made to the theory by KUNUGUI [1-3J, IRIE [IJ, TOKI [IJ, TUMURA [1-2J, KAMETANI [1-4J, TsuJI [4J and NOSHIRO [1-4J. Recently, many noteworthy advances have been made by BAGEMIHL, SEIDEL, COLLINGWOOD, CARTWRIGHT, HERVE, LEHTO, LOHWATER, MEIER, OHTSUKA and many other mathematicians. The main purpose of this small book is to give a systematic account on the theory of cluster sets. Chapter I is devoted to some definitions and preliminary discussions. In Chapter II, we treat extensions of classical results on cluster sets to the case of single-valued analytic functions in a general plane domain whose boundary contains a compact set of essential singularities of capacity zero; it is well-known that HALLSTROM [2J and TsuJI [7J extended independently Nevanlinna's theory of meromorphic functions to the case of a compact set of essential singUlarities of logarithmic capacity zero. Here, Ahlfors' theory of covering surfaces plays a funda­ mental role. Chapter III "is concerned with functions meromorphic in the unit circle.

The circle of writers around the young Goethe, including Herder, Lenz, Klinger, and later Schiller, felt frustrated by the Enlightenment world of reason, balance, and control, and turned instead to nature as the source of authentic experience. Inspired by Rousseau and Herder, by Shakespeare, and by folk culture, they rebelled against propriety and experimented with new literary forms, their creative energy bursting through conventions that seemed staid and artificial. The Sturm und Drang has often been cited by those attempting to legitimate nationalism and irrationalism, but scholars have more recently emphasized the diversity of the movement and the links between it and the Enlightenment. This volume of essays by leading scholars from the UK, the US, and Germany illuminates the guiding ideas of the movement, discussing its most important authors, texts, and ideas, and taking account of the variety and complexity of the movement, placing it more securely within late-eighteenth-century European history. This interdisciplinary doctoral thesis examines John Barclay's (1582-1621) New Latin romance "Argenis" (1621), a political roman-àagrave;-clef set against the background of the French religious wars. It is at once a pamphlet against the monarchomachists, a treatise on the "ideal ruler", and a manifesto of political absolutism. The interpretation studies the romance in the context of the political thinking of its author and looks closely at those medieval and early modern works on politics and statesmanship that marked Barclay's thinking. This study is also the first to draw on Vatican sources pertaining to Barclay.
