The result of an international interdisciplinary research project, this publication is the first comprehensive monograph of a ceramics factory in Lower Silesia, the Feinsteinzeugfabrik Julius Paul &Sohn in Bunzlau, active from 1893 to 1945. A particular challenge for the authors was the fact that no historic source material had survived, all the regional achives and librairies having been destroyed during the war. Only a few original documents, which withstood expulsion and flight, remained for evaluation. After the most thorough and wide-ranging researches, it became possible to reconstruct almost completely the factory's whole output on the basis of over 6,000 Julius Paul ceramics scattered among more than forty museums, collections and private owners in Poland, Germany, Austria and Holland, and finally to publish the results. In the early 1970's, due to serious epistemological flaws, the demise of traditional New Testament research paradigms became imminent. A new generation of scholars started the search for a fresh approach, based on scientifically sound principles. Working within the stimulating atmosphere of the New Testament Society of South Africa, the author was one of the pioneers in developing a new, multi-dimensional research approach for New Testament studies. The articles in the present volume, written over a period of 25 years, reflect part of this journey, as viewed from a Pauline perspective. Combining the positive aspects of the traditional biblical research paradigms with the important insights of modern linguistics, literary science, semantics and pragmatics, particularly rhetoric, the author investigates the convergence of various influences in Paul's pre-christian career. He proposes new possibilities of understanding Paul's language and style, such as hyperbolical contrasts, typical of his Semitic background. Various aspects of his strategies of persuasion are investigated, such as creating an ethos, vilification, alienation and re-identification. The majority of articles concentrate on central elements in Pauline theology: belief in the resurrection of Jesus, the centrality of grace, the in Christ and related formulae, faith and obedience, justification in Romans, Christian identity, ethics and ethos, as portrayed in Romans.

'The Pauline Chapel, the private chapel of the Apostolic Palaces, built in 1537 at the behest of Paul III, has been reopened for worship with the solemn Vespers celebrated by Benedict XVI. This volume, available in five languages, accurately describes all the phases of the complex restoration works which began in 2002 with the preliminary scientific and archival research, and which have restored the Chapel to the best visual conditions possible, thus enabling a more advanced understanding of its historical, iconographic and stylistic value. Introduced by Benedict XVI's homily, which inaugurated the laborious restoration work carried out during the summer of 2009, and preceded with an interview with the Director of the Vatican Museums, Antonio Paolucci, the focus of the volume is the essay by Arnold Nesselrath examining the meaning and significance of the wall paintings (by Michelangelo, Lorenzo Sabbatini and Zuccari), revealing also the perfect coherence of the iconographic system with the functions assumed by the place.
