Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Mathematik - Zahlentheorie, Note: 2,3, Universität Duisburg-Essen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arbeit beginnt mit der Definition des Goldenen Schnitts. Im weiteren Verlauf wird der Autor zunächst die Irrationalität von ϕ zeigen und sich dann näher mit der Approximation dieser Zahl auseinandersetzen. Dabei wird hauptsächlich die Approximation durch Kettenbrüche in den Blick genommen, da diese nach dem Satz von Lagrange beste Approximationen liefern. Um diesen Satz nachzuvollziehen, zu beweisen und die Approximation durchführen zu können, greift der Autor die Theorie der Näherungs- und Kettenbrüche auf und überträgt dann schließlich seine Ergebnisse auf ϕ. In diesem Zusammenhang kann man sehen, dass ϕ so irrational wie möglich ist. Letztlich wird als zweiter Ansatz die Annäherung des Goldenen Schnitts durch Fibonacci-Zahlen betrachtet.

This publication documents a little-known temporary artwork. In the winter of 1973/74, Paul Thek (1933–1988) was a guest of the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg, where he installed the room-filling environment "Ark, Pyramid – Christmas" ("The Manger")--a development of the legendary "Pyramid" installation realized at Documenta 5 in 1972. This exhibition, organized by the director of the museum at the time, Siegfried Salzmann, was the fourth in Thek’s large-scale projects in Europe, all of which engaged with individualized religious symbols (or what Harald Szeemann termed "Individual Mythologies"). The Christmas season provided Thek with the occasion to present, for the first time, a self-written theater piece in the form of a nativity play featuring children from Duisburg. This book reproduces the museum’s archival materials, offering a reconstruction of the exhibition. It includes an interview with Edwin Klein, who assisted with Thek’s installation.

On the 14 and 15 October 1944 RAF Bomber Command unleashed one of the Second World War’s most devastating bombardments, targeting the German industrial city of Duisburg. Known as Operation Hurricane, Bomber Command’s maximum effort involved approximately one thousand four-engine heavy bombers on each attack, delivering a whirlwind assault on the enemy’s war machine as the Allied armies edged eastwards towards the Nazi homeland. Never before had the city faced such a massive onslaught – the resulting devastation was unprecedented. This is the story of Operation Hurricane from RAF Bomber Command’s perspective, and that of the numerous crews who flew, fought, and failed to return. Each of the aircraft lost has been investigated in depth; the lives of the crews, the circumstances of their loss, and the identification of the airmen and their respective crash sites. The author also details the investigation into the brutal murder of one particular airman. Marc Hall, a relative of one of those lost on the raid, has pieced together a comprehensive account of this historic attack, utilizing a wealth of eyewitness accounts and veteran and prisoners-of-war recollections, accompanied by numerous previously unpublished photographs.
