Sparks from the Cosmic Flame: Essays inspired by Dion Fortune's The Cosmic Doctrine
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 23.03 $Dion Fortune’s The Cosmic Doctrine is a spiritual work that resulted from a psychic experiment between two friends in Glastonbury, 1923. It has since become one of the most important works in modern esoteric literature and a constant source of inspiration and instruction to many practitioners. Sparks from the Cosmic Flame is a series of essays written by some of those inspired practitioners, which rather than seeking to 'explain' the work or re-write it in more modern vernacular, instead develops various and different aspects of its ideas that can be applied to one’s practice. It's a book about how The Cosmic Doctrine can be used, or perhaps used differently and more flexibly. Wendy Berg, author of Red Tree, White Tree and Gwenevere and the Round Table has collated a series of illuminating essays by those who share a common enthusiasm for The Cosmic Doctrine and its applicability to contemporary practice. The contributors include the editor as well as M. E. Beardsley, James North, Stuart Delacey, Dale Kendrick, J.R. Petrie, Derek Thompson, Gwen Blythe, Christian Gilson, Holly Mulhern and Alan Robinson. There is no single or orthodox interpretation but rather a call for individual imagination and intuition, as well as the reasoning mind. It is unlike any other book and the reader will find that the guidance and inspiration of the original Inner Plane communicators are still there to be contacted; the words are the catalyst. One needs only to read a portion of the text and hold the images and concepts in the mind for the magic to work.

The Magical Life of Dion Fortune: Priestess of the 20th Century
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 74.97 $DESCRIPTION This is the first full biography of Dion Fortune, one of the most striking personalities of the twentieth century. She hid behind a veil of secrecy and became a cult figure in the years after her death in 1947. A brilliant writer and pioneer psychologist, her whole life was devoted to living out an eternal myth in a story that can be told in terms of Virgins and Dragons, Moons and Oceans, and the spirit of the land itself. A powerful psychic and medium, obsessed with the study of magic, her career was never entirely within this world. And in her own eyes at least she was a Priestess, a channel for the Great Goddess, an exponent of the time-lost Mysteries of Women. REVIEWS 'A fascinating mixture of research, commentary and atmospheric invocation.' The Wiccan 'Because Dion Fortune was such an influential king-pin in the later occult renaissance and the book is a chronicle of an otherwise unchronicled but powerful period of evolution in the Western Tradition.' Dion Fortune's Rites of Isis and of Pan
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 23.76 $Dion Fortune encoded much practical magical lore within her novels, leaving it up to the reader to work out how to make use of it. Behind the novels were two major rituals, the Rite of Isis and the Rite of Pan, which Dion Fortune occasionally performed in public in the 1930s as part of her drive to open up occultism beyond the closed walls of esoteric fraternities. Now for the first time, these important magical workings have been released from her society's archive in their complete and original form. Edited and explained by Gareth Knight, this book contains the full text of the original Rite of Isis and Rite of Pan which formed the basis for Dion Fortune's Moon Magic, The Goat-Foot God, and The Sea Priestess. Further archive material elucidates the practical magical principles found in The Winged Bull. The book is supplemented by several articles written by Dion Fortune in the 1930s which shed further light on the practical content of her novels, including the essay Ceremonial Magic Unveiled, a review of the work of Israel Regardie in which she gives her views on the controversies within the Golden Dawn and frankly describes her own falling out with Moina MacGregor Mathers.

The Forgotten Mage The Magical Lectures of Colonel C.F.R.Seymour
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 21.37 $Charles Seymour was a man of many talents and considerable occult skills. the friend and confident of Dion Fortune, he worked with her and his magical partner, Christine Hartley, for many productive years. As one of the Inner Circle of Dion Fortune's Society of the Inner Light, Seymour was a High Priest in every sense of the word, but he was also one of the finest teachers of the occult art to emerge this century. Principles of Esoteric Healing
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 20.75 $One of the early ambitions of Dion Fortune along with her husband Dr Thomas Penry Evans was to found a clinic devoted to esoteric medicine, along the lines that she had fictionally described in her series of short stories The Secrets of Dr. Taverner. The original Dr. Taverner was her first occult teacher Dr. Theodore Moriarty, about whom she later wrote: if there had been no Dr. Taverner there would have been no Dion Fortune! Shortly after their marriage in 1927 she and Dr. Evans began to receive a series of inner communications from a contact whom they referred to as the Master of Medicine. Owing to the pressure of all their other work in founding an occult school the clinic never came to fruition as first intended, but a mass of material was gathered in the course of their little publicised healing work, which combined esoteric knowledge and practice with professional medical expertise. Most of this material has since been recovered from scattered files and reveals a fascinating approach to esoteric healing, taking into account the whole human being. Health problems are examined in terms of their physical, etheric, astral, mental or spiritual origination, along with principles of esoteric diagnosis based upon the structure of the Qabalistic Tree of Life. The function and malfunction of the psychic centres are described along with principles for their treatment by conventional or alternative therapeutic methods, with particular attention paid to the aura and the etheric double. Apart from its application to the healing arts much of the material is of wider interest for it demonstrates techniques for general development of the psychic and intuitive faculties apart from their more specialised use in assisting diagnosis. The book is edited and arranged by Gareth Knight, a life long student of Dion Fortune and her work and author of her biography Dion Fortune and the Inner Light.

Spiritualism and Occultism
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 3.29 $As well as being an occultist of the first rank, Dion Fortune was an accomplished medium. Thus she is able to explain the methods, technicalities and practical problems of trance mediumship from first hand experience. She describes exactly what it feels like to go into trance and the different types of being one may meet with beyond the usual spirit guides. For most of her life her mediumistic abilities were known only to her immediate circle until, in the war years, she responded to the call to try to make a united front of occultists and spiritualists against the forces of materialism in the post-war world. At this point she wrote various articles for the spiritualist press and appeared as a speaker on several spiritualist platforms. This book contains her original work Spiritualism in the Light of Occult Science with commentaries by Gareth Knight that quote extensively from now largely unobtainable material that she wrote on the subject during her life, including transcripts from her own trance work and rare articles from old magazines and journals. Dion Fortune needs no introduction to the student of the Western Esoteric Tradition as the founder of a major occult school, the Society of the Inner Light. Gareth Knight, originally a student of her school, after making a name of his own as an esoteric author and teacher, has recently returned to the Society. This book represents the fourth collaborative work between the two, An Introduction to Ritual Magic, the Circuit of Force, and Principles of Hermetic Philosophy being already published in this series.
