Since the first scientific excavations were conducted at Jenné-jeno in 1977, this huge Iron Age occupation mound located in the floodplain of the Inland Niger Delta has produced a classic archaeological sequence spanning 1500 years. Jenné-jeno is widely recognized as one of the most carefully documented cases demonstrating the rise of indigenous urbanism in Africa, and its archaeology has contributed significantly to a major paradigm shift in explanations for the rise of complex societies in sub-Saharan Africa. This monograph presents the results of the excavations conducted in 1980-81 at this site and at two others within the extensive mound complex of which Jenné-jeno is a part.

In 1988 and 1989 large areas in the centre of Worcester were excavated, in advance of the construction of a shopping centre, providing a unique opportunity to examine the development of the city. Although little prehistoric evidence was recovered, the project identified the remains of a Roman small town, with most intense occupation between the 2nd and 4th century. The evidence indicated that ironworking and livestock were two staples of the town's economy. Medieval discoveries included Anglo-Saxon defences, evidence of Anglo-Norman lime-burning and metalworking, and the first complete plan of an 11th- or 12th-century stone hall uncovered in Worcester. A later medieval bronze foundry was also recorded. This substantial and well-presented report publishes descriptions of the archaeological remains, with a full chronological synthesis, and numerous specialist finds reports on pottery, building materials, ironworking residues, metalwork, jewellery, glass, coins, inscriptions, worked stone, bone and antler tools, human skeletal remains and other environmental remains. Many of the features and finds are illustrated.

38AK172 is known as the Hitchcock Woods Pottery. It is located in Aiken, SC and was the site of an alkaline glazed stoneware pottery kiln. In 2015 preliminary excavations were aimed at determining whether the kiln was intact. We were successful in finding an intact kiln floor and waster pile. Artifacts, including partially reconstructed vessels from private collections, were examined and many are illustrated.This is a preliminary report on on-going work.

This volume reports the findings of a Canadian archaeological team under the direction of the authors at San Giovanni di Ruoti in the highlands of southern Italy. The excavations, which took place over a seven-year period, have revealed a series of three Roman villas which span the period from the beginning of the first century AD to the middle of the sixth century. Of these villas, the third is particularly important since it provides the best evidence to date for the development of a villa in the transitional period between the end of the Roman Empire in the West and the beginning of the Middle Ages.The core of this volume is an architectural study of the building in its stratigraphic context, with artifacts selected to establish the chronology of the building sequence. Preliminary chapters deal with the geographical and historical background, and with the relation of this villa to other Roman villas in Lucania and to other settlements in the vicinity. The development of the building in each period is illustrated with architectural plans and reconstructions. The building materials are described and analysed, and the mosaics found in the villa of the latest period are fully illustrated. The stratigraphic evidence is presented in a final chapter with thirty-four section drawings.Further volumes are planned with detailed analyses of the artifacts and of the faunal and botanical remains, and a final summing up of the significance of the site.
