One Year Without Jonathan: a journey through grief and healing
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 23.75 $November 13, 2014, changed my life forever. I was blind sided by the loss of my 12 year old son due to suicide. I found myself deep underwater where no one could reach me. The journey to the surface was turbulent and sometimes unknown. Would I ever make it? I prayed for guidance and strength every day. I do believe my son answered those prayers by giving me wondrous visions, dreams and messages from beyond. By following his messages I was able to learn to live again. I share this very difficult and personal tragedy, through my journaling and through photography, in the hopes that you may also turn devastation into healing. Grief is universal, let's start talking about it.

Jonathan Clark - Ottawa, Illinois: 1967
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 50.00 $'I wish I could take you to Ottawa, where I was born and spent my childhood years. You could go there yourself, of course, by driving a few hours west out of Chicago. You would find the town much as it was fifty years ago, stretched sleepily across the arms of two rivers, the pretty Fox and slow-flowing Illinois. Ottawa exists for me now not as a place but as a memory whose geography resonates distantly, when I think of it at all. I have returned there, in later years, and recognized little, as a stranger puzzling out unfamiliar territory. Yet how can I deny the imprint of those low rolling hills, the distant horizons and languorous days stretching endlessly; the smell of the earth or the sight of a frog's golden eye reflecting the infinite arc of the universe? How can I reveal that interior landscape, which even for me has faded into shadow?' - Jonathan Clark. Jonathan Clark, an award-winning photographer and designer whose work is included in major collections in the United States, Europe and Japan, has put together a book of photographs he made some 40 years ago, at the age of 15, of his home town. An homage to a specific time and place, this book is the closing of a chapter, but one that will open forgotten memories for all who have roots in middle America.

Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 30.16 $Simple. Seasonal. Inspired. A father of New American cuisine and mentor to chefs like Bobby Flay, Jonathan Waxman introduced a new generation to the pleasures of casual food by shining a spotlight on seasonal produce. Now, in Italian, My Way, he shares the spontaneous and earthy dishes that made him a Top Chef Master and culinary legend, and turned his restaurant Barbuto into a New York destination. Waxman’s rustic Italian food is accessible, delicious, and a joy to prepare. It’s food you cook for friends and family with music in the background and a glass of wine in hand—fresh ravioli with pumpkin and sage, chicken al forno with salsa verde, a blueberry crisp. Italian, My Way gives you the confidence to transform simple ingredients into culinary revelations and create bold and robust flavor without a lot of fuss. You’ll make the perfect blistered-crust pizza and spaghetti alla carbonara, the creamiest risotto with sweet peas and Parmesan, and an unforgettable grilled hanger steak with salsa piccante. My Less Than Secret Life (Paperback or Softback)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 23.06 $My Less Than Secret Life is the companion volume to Jonathan Ames's first memoirish endeavor, "the mildly perverted and wildly amusing" (Vanity Fair) What's Not to Love? This collection of the cult author's fiction and essays includes Ames's public diary, the bi-weekly columns he penned for the New York Press. The entries of this diary are a record of his mad adventures: his ill-fated debut as an amateur boxer fighting as ‘The Herring Wonder', a faltering liaison with a Cuban prostitute, his public outing of George Plimpton as a Jew, his discussion with Eve Ensler about his dear friend The Mangina, a renegade mission as a Jew into the heart of Waspy Maine, and other such harrowing escapades. Whether trying to round up a partner for an orgy, politely assisting in an animal sacrifice, or scamming tickets to the WWF's Royal Rumble for his son, Jonathan Ames proves himself a ballsier Everyman whose transgressions and compassionate meditations will satisfy the voyeur and encourage the halfhearted. But be warned. As Jonathan says, "I don't like to be a bad influence. It's bad enough that I have influence over myself." "...Ames has always been one of my favorite contemporary writers ... for his ... fearless commitment to the most demanding psychosexual comedies."—Rick Moody

My Perfect One
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 112.31 $Most studies of the history of interpretation of Song of Songs focus on its interpretation from late antiquity to modernity. In My Perfect One, Jonathan Kaplan examines earlier rabbinic interpretation of this work by investigating an underappreciated collection of works of rabbinic literature from the first few centuries of the Common Era, known as the tannaitic midrashim. In a departure from earlier scholarship that too quickly classified rabbinic interpretation of Song of Songs as allegorical, Kaplan advocates a more nuanced reading of the approach of the early sages, who read Song of Songs through a mode of typological interpretation concerned with the correspondence between Scripture and ideal events in Israel's history. Throughout the book Kaplan explores ways in which this portrayal helped shape a model vision of rabbinic piety as well as of an idealized vision of their beloved, God, in the wake of the destruction, dislocation, and loss the Jewish community experienced in the first two centuries of the Common Era. The archetypal and idealized language of Song of Songs provided, as Kaplan argues, a textual landscape in which to imagine an idyllic construction of Israel's relationship to her beloved, marked by mutual devotion and fidelity. Through this approach to Song of Songs, the Tannaim helped lay the foundations for later Jewish thought of a robust theology of intimacy in God's relationship with the Jewish people.
