This volume contains records of “Deeds, Bonds & Letters of Attorney” from Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 19, 1728–1733, beginning on page 1 through page 441, for courts held 18 March 1728 through 17 July 1733. Records generally include the full names of all persons involved in the transaction (grantor, grantee, witnesses, and court officials), sum paid, description and location of property, date of transaction and date recorded. An every-name, place and subject index adds to the value of this work.

Based on land records at the Hall of Records in Annapolis, it identifies all grants of land made by purchase, a process involving the issuing of warrants, certificates of survey, and patents. From these several documentary sources, Mr. Coldham has been able to assemble a unique record of virtually every land grant made between 1751 and 1765, a period that ushered in the French and Indian War and ended with the imposition of the infamous Stamp Act. Similar in arrangement to the earlier volumes in the series, this one boasts of an index of tract names.

This book contains six generations of descendants of Juan Bautista Valdés, grantee of the Juan Bautista Valdez Land Grant located near Abiquiu, New Mexico. The focus is on Juan Bautista Valdés’ grandson, José Mariano de Jesús Valdés, who was born in Barranco about 1806 during Spanish Governance of New Mexico. Biographies of José Mariano de Jesús and his children give background to the history of the Valdés family in New Mexico and Southern Colorado. Also included are photographs of many of the descendants as well as a six generation descendants report. Thousands of descendants can be found living throughout the United States, especially, New Mexico, Colorado, and California.
