Die dietsche boeke die ons toebehoeren, de kartuizers van Herne en de productie van Middelnederlandse handschriften in de regio Brussel (1350-1400)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 31.98 $Die Dietsche boeke die ons toebehoeren is a codicological and paleographical study of 23 Middle Dutch manuscripts from the fourteenth century. All of them have survived from the Augustinian priory Rooklooster, just outside Brussels. It is believed that a great many vernacular books were produced in the local scriptorium of Rooklooster, both for use in the priory's library and for people outside this community, while the inhabitants also translated a number of Latin texts. Die Dietsche boeke die ons toebehoeren shows that the Middle Dutch manuscripts surviving from Rooklooster were, in fact, produced in the Charterhouse Herne, some thirty kilometers to the Southwest. The study describes the production of vernacular manuscripts in Herne and it shows the Charterhouse played an important role in the commercial book trade in the region Brussels: the Carthusians copied vernacular books at the request of citizens, religious communities and stationers

Wild Magic: The Wildwood Tarot Workbook
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 29.61 $Want to delve deeper into the concepts that made The Wildwood Tarot wildly popular? This workbook further explores those powerful ancient traditions.Wild Magic invokes the power of the Wildwood—the Green Man and Green Woman, as well as all the living archetypes of the forest, such as Herne the Hunter and Robin-i-the-Hood. Journey across time to the pre-Celtic world where primal forces, in the guise of animal, bird, and fish, roamed free and opened doorways into the otherworld of the Ancestors. With chapters on the Lore of the Wild, the Wheel of the Year, shamanic methods of examining the wild, and meditations designed to enable personal encounters with Wildwood archetypes, as well as newly crafted rituals enabling readers to celebrate festivals such as the Midsummer and Midwinter Solstices, the book takes a fresh and informed look at a set of ancient traditions applied to the present.

The Return of Don Quixote
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 22.47 $Michael Herne is a librarian at Seawood Abbey, an estate owned by Lord Seawood. When Lord Seawood?s daughter and some of her friends want to put on a play called ?Blondel the Troubadour,? the librarian is asked to play the part of a medieval king. Herne not only takes his role seriously by thoroughly researching the Middle Ages, when the play is concluded, he refuses to take off the costume. He remains in character, much to the befuddlement and consternation of the other players. With this device, Chesterton achieves a wonderful effect in contrast to the typical snide modern commentary on the past: he creates an opportunity for the past to offer a commentary on the present. Herne looks at his old clothes, that is, the modern clothes he once wore, with embarrassment. The modern world is embarrassing. It takes a previous age to see that. Newly designed and typeset by Waking Lion Press.

Fifty Years of Silence: The Extraordinary Memoir of a War Rape Survivor
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 57.51 $Gripping and inspiring, this account tells the story of Jan Ruff-O’Herne and the shattering of her idyllic childhood in Dutch colonial Indonesia. Depicting the Japanese invasion of Java in 1942, this riveting autobiography recounts how she was taken from her mother and two younger sisters and forced into sexual slavery in a military brothel. Following the beatings and rapes she suffered during a period of three months, this record reveals how she was finally returned to prison, only to have her family’s lives threatened if she ever spoke the truth about the atrocities inflicted upon her. Her silence over five decades is portrayed here, broken only by her witnessing Korean war rape victims making public appeals for justice and her resolution to testify and support them. Documenting her courageous confession to her family and her tireless work to protect the rights of women in war and armed conflict, this recollection is a tribute to one woman’s inner strength, constant faith, and unbreakable survival.
