Hollister
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 23.84 $The history of Rancho San Justo and Hollister began in 1839 when Gov. Juan Alvarado gave the land grant to Jose Castro. Castro sold the land to Francisco Pacheco, who, in turn, sold the land grant to William Hollister and his partners Llwellyn Bixby and Thomas and Benjamin Flint. In 1861, the men agreed to split the property. The site for the town was surveyed in 1868 with plans to divide the site into 50 homestead lots. Colonel Hollister sold his portion of the rancho to a group of men who called themselves the San Justo Homestead Association. At that time, the town of Hollister was still in Monterey County; however, the homestead association started agitating for a division of the county. An act to create the county of San Benito was approved by the governor on February 12, 1874, and Hollister became the county seat.

The Happy Hollisters and the Mystery of the Little Mermaid
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 98.22 $While winging their way to Denmark the Happy Hollisters become friendly with a member of the Queen of Denmark’s staff. She is bringing home the Queen’s own valuable reproduction of the “Little Mermaid,” the famous statue that overlooks the harbor in Copenhagen. While she is showing the Hollisters the little figurine, another passenger expresses interest in seeing this rare treasure. His interest, however, strikes the five Hollister children as being more than just enthusiasm for the beauty and workmanship of the figurine. In the excitement of preparing to land at the Copenhagen airport, he is forgotten until, upon landing, the figurine is found to be missing. From then on the Hollisters find themselves becoming more and more involved with the strange man with the beard and his rather peculiar activities. Much to the Hollisters’ surprise they find not only is the figurine an object of mystery, but the trail of the bearded man is leading them to a ring of international thieves and their search for a bejeweled treasure, hidden centuries ago. The Hollisters finally discover a clue to this treasure from the study of the history of the ship models hung in the churches of Denmark to honor lost seamen. This new Hollister story should be a fine addition to the series, since it is the first time the Hollisters have traveled outside the Western Hemisphere.

The Happy Hollisters and the Old Clipper Ship (The Happy Hollisters, No. 12)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 98.49 $A rain storm and an unexpected guest bring this new mystery into the Hollister's lives when a lightning struck tree branch falls on a car in front of their home in Shoreham. The car is occupied by a young Hawaiian, Tom King, who, although not seriously hurt, needs help from the Hollisters to get out of his car. While resting in their home, he tells them he has come all the way across the country in search of a log book from an unidentified clipper ship. The only clue he has are a few sketches of the ship which he hopes will be identified by one of the old clipper ship captains he has been told to see. This log book is important to Tom for it will prove his grandfather and grandmother were married on this ship giving him evidence that he is legally entitled to the inheritance left by his uncle. How is this mystery connected with Gregory Grant and Lisa Sarno, the famous movie stars, and a motion picture in which the Hollister children have an active part? And who is the sinister stranger in the checkered shirt? Why should he first try to buy Tom's sketches of the clipper ship and then, failing that, try to steal them? From beginning to end, this new story will keep you guessing as the Hollisters once again prove their ability as master sleuths.

The Happy Hollisters and the Indian Treasure (The Happy Hollisters, No. 4)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 99.41 $Another exciting adventure for this happy family comes about through their new friend Indy Roades, a former baseball player and a Yumatan Indian. He tells them about his pueblo in the mountains of New Mexico, and his tribe's lost turquoise mine. When Mr. Hollister hears that a store there, called THE CHAPARRAL which sells trinkets and Yumatan articles, is closing down, he considers buying the goods for his own shop, THE TRADING POST. He decides to go to New Mexico to examine the stock, and takes his family along with him. After an exciting journey by plane, and in a rented school bus, they arrive among the friendly Yumatans. The children have a wonderful time joining in the games and festivals. Indy's niece and nephew, Blue Feather and Red Feather, show them how to shoot with bows and arrows, and ride bareback on Pinto ponies, as Indian children do. But best of all, they foil the thieves who had stolen the goods they came to buy -- and discover a clue to the buried mine. How they help the tribe to regain their prosperity and happiness, and the reward that the grateful Yumatans give them in return, makes an enthralling end to this new story in the Happy Hollister series.
