The primary object of the work is to furnish technical data and information amply supplemented by clear and accurate diagrams. Historical facts have been included wherever desirable, but do not interfere with the main function of the work, to explain the technology of clocks and timepieces. The fundamentals of time measurement and the principles of operation and constructional details of clocks, watches and chronometers are described in full. Care has also been devoted to such essential details as the various forms of escapement, striking and chiming mechanisms, repeating and chronograph work, balance and springs, and keyless devices as well as electrical clock systems and marine chronometers.
