The Theory of Inconsistency has a long lineage, stretching back to Herakleitos, Hegel and Marx. In the late twentieth-century, it was placed on a rigorous footing with the discovery of paraconsistent logic and inconsistent mathematics. How are they to answer questions that arise in their study of it?Does the Evangelist teach a disjunction between salvation/assurance and discipleship, or does he view them on a continuum? Faith Alone proponents teach that the former is the case. Are they right? It is the thesis of this work that Faith Alone adherents take an incorrect approach to Johannine literature. Although salvation, assurance, and discipleship can be distinguished they cannot be separated from each other. John saw them on a continuum. In fact, he taught that one's continuation in the faith was the evidence of its genuineness. Those who drew back from continuing in the faith showed that they did not belong to Christ.
