Integrability
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 61.34 $The principal aim of the book is to give a comprehensive account of the variety of approaches to such an important and complex concept as Integrability. Dev- oping mathematical models, physicists often raise the following questions: whether the model obtained is integrable or close in some sense to an integrable one and whether it can be studied in depth analytically. In this book we have tried to c- ate a mathematical framework to address these issues, and we give descriptions of methods and review results. In the Introduction we give a historical account of the birth and development of the theory of integrable equations, focusing on the main issue of the book – the concept of integrability itself. A universal de nition of Integrability is proving to be elusive despite more than 40 years of its development. Often such notions as “- act solvability” or “regular behaviour” of solutions are associated with integrable systems. Unfortunately these notions do not lead to any rigorous mathematical d- inition. A constructive approach could be based upon the study of hidden and rich algebraic or analytic structures associated with integrable equations. The requi- ment of existence of elements of these structures could, in principle, be taken as a de nition for integrability. It is astonishing that the nal result is not sensitive to the choice of the structure taken; eventually we arrive at the same pattern of eq- tions.

Probability in Banach Spaces: Isoperimetry and Processes
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 59.95 $Isoperimetric, measure concentration and random process techniques appear at the basis of the modern understanding of Probability in Banach spaces. Based on these tools, the book presents a complete treatment of the main aspects of Probability in Banach spaces (integrability and limit theorems for vector valued random variables, boundedness and continuity of random processes) and of some of their links to Geometry of Banach spaces (via the type and cotype properties). Its purpose is to present some of the main aspects of this theory, from the foundations to the most important achievements. The main features of the investigation are the systematic use of isoperimetry and concentration of measure and abstract random process techniques (entropy and majorizing measures). Examples of these probabilistic tools and ideas to classical Banach space theory are further developed.

The General Problem of the Motion of Coupled Rigid Bodies about a Fixed Point (Springer Tracts in Natural Philosophy Vol. 7)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 40.00 $In the theory of motion of several coupled rigid bodies about a fixed point one can distinguish three basic ramifications. 1. The first, the so-called classical direction of investigations, is concerned with particular cases of integrability ot the equations of motion of a single rigid body about a fixed point,1 and with their geo metrical interpretation. This path of thought was predominant until the beginning of the 20th century and its most illustrious represen tatives are L. EULER (1707-1783), J L. LAGRANGE (1736-1813), L. POINSOT (1777-1859), S. V. KOVALEVSKAYA (1850-1891), and others. Chapter I of the present monograph intends to reflect this branch of investigations. For collateral reading on the general questions dealt with in this chapter the reader is referred to the following textbooks and reports: A. DOMOGAROV [1J, F. KLEIN and A. SOMMERFELD [11, 1 , 1 J, A. Methods of Real Analysis
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 65.12 $Methods of Real Analysis "After a typical calculus course in one real variable, you will find in this book an optimal, rigourous and clear introduction to real analysis. That means a closer inspection and generalization of old concepts (limit, convergence, continuiity, differentiaility, integrability... ) as well as encountering new mathematical objects and wider horizons in the same classic context). The work starts with sequences and series of real numbers. Then it says what a metric spaces M is and defines compactness, connectedness and completeness. as well as what means for a function to be continous at a given point of its domain. Later it reviews the Riemann integral and the basic properties of derivatives, offering a sound construction of the so called elementary functions. But is in the last four chapters 9-10-11-12 where the book show its virtues: Abel and Cèsaro summability, uniform convergence (but power series are missing!), uniform approximation (Stone-Weierstrass' and Ascoli-Arzela's theorem), Picard's existence theorem for ordinary differential equations, measure and Lebesgue integral on the real line (alas! without Lebesgue's ultimate version of the fundamental theorem of calculus, that express every absolutely continuous function as the integral of its -existing!- derivative, which is of course Lebesgue integrable) and finally a WONDERFUL (if too short) introduction to Fourier Analysis, that deals with Fourier series for both L_1 functions (the hard task) and L_2 functions (it includes Riesz-Fischer theorem). Note that for periodic functions L_2 is strctly smalller than L_1. Everything is done in a simple and direct style. I have decided to review this book because recently it has helped me a lot in understanding (for L_1 periodic functions) several tricky results. "Measure Theory and Fine Properties of Functions", now in a cheaper 2nd. edition or the classic General Theory of Functions and Integration, by A. E. Taylor. -- lim_bus"
