Focke-wulf Fw 190 "Long Ne": an Illustrated History of the Fw 190 D Series
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 29.06 $This book covers the complete development history of those variants of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 powered by inline engines. The first Fw 190 equipped with a Daimler Benz liquid-cooled engine took to the air in early 1942, followed six months later by another powered by a Jumo 213. Production of the Fw 190 C, Fw 190 D and Ta 153 was delayed by the German air ministry. Not until 1944, by which time Germany had lost control of the air, did the Fw 190 D-9, an interim fighter powered by the Jumo 213 A, enter production. The Fw 190 D-9 proved an immediate success, largely due to an excellent prototype test program under Dipl.Ing. Hans Sander. The type quickly entered service with the Luftwaffe and more than 1,700 examples were completed by the end of the war. The Fw 190 D-9 gave rise to a number of improved variants with the more powerful Jumo 213 F engine and a heavier armament, however only a handful of the D-11 and D-13 versions were completed. With a maximum speed of 750 km/h, the Fw 190 D-12 powered by the new Jumo 213 EB would have represented the apex of Fw 190 development. The proposed Fw 190 D-14 and D-15, both powered by improved versions of the dive-bombers 603, came too late to see service with the Luftwaffe.

Messerschmitt Me 262 in Action - Aircraft No. 212 [first edition]
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 99.99 $The Messerschmitt Me 262 became the first operational jet fighter in the world. In addition to its Jumo 004 turbojet powerplants, its swept wings were a further innovation that made the Me 262 one of the most extraordinary designs of World War II. The Me 262 A-1a achieved the incredible speed for its time of 497 mph - almost 125 mph faster than the North American P-51 Mustang. The Me 262 not only enjoyed superior speed, but it also had deadly firepower: a total of (4) Mk.108 30 mm cannon were mounted in the nose of the fighter variant. Its operational service, however, was hampered by its temperamental engines and under-strength undercarriage. A total of 1,433 Me 262s were built during World War II. Covers the production and development of the Me 262 with more than 100 photographs, color profiles, and detailed line drawings. 52 pages.

Stormbird Colors: Construction, Camouflage and Markings of the Me 262
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 83.98 $The history, camouflage and markings of the Me 262 is described with the assistance of 40 WWII period photos, scale drawings, and excerpts from an original Me 262 engineering handbook. The Jumo 004 turbojet engine is also placed in its historical context as both a crucial asset and disappointing liability for the Stormbird. A full color 32 page photo essay of "Black X", Werknummer 500200 is outlined together with a history of its pilot and its service with II./KG 51. "Black X" is the last remaining complete Me 262 bomber, now housed in Australia. This fascinating Stormbird was repainted in the 1950s but its original wartime paint work was partially exposed by research in the early 1980s. Important elements of "Black X", including the cannon bay and fuselage interior are in extraordinarily good condition. EF#5 includes many color photographs to highlight construction and camouflage aspects of this significant aircraft. The late-war camouflage on "Black X" is comprehensively discussed and cross referenced against reliable sources of RLM colors and Federal Standard samples. Illustrated by Tom Tullis, all new color profiles plus a summary of the special markings applied to the Stormbird are included along with tactical and unit markings presented in full color
