Stroke Play is the Kingdom: Seek First the Kingdom of God
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 22.14 $This book uses eighteen levels of consciousness to show how we can transition from five-sensory beings that exist in ignorance, shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, and anger to multisensory beings that exist in courage, non-judgment, acceptance, willingness, reason(ing), love, joy, peace, and enlightenment. From these levels of consciousness, it is clear that five-sensory consciousness is only good with less (poverty) while the multisensory consciousness is better with more (wealth). We are all aware that there is a change taking place but none of us can quite articulate what is happening. This book is an attempt to share my frames of reference for what I understand is happening to all of us from a Christian perspective. Although Christ's crucifixion is the ultimate demonstration of transitioning from five sensory to multisensory, I use the duality of mindsets in stroke play versus match play in golfers to help convey the importance of deliberate choice in committing oneself to the process of inner change required for an inside-out transformation. For over twelve years, I have used the handicap system in golf to gauge what level of consciousness I was operating from when playing and it has been my experience that consistently good play is only achievable at the consciousness levels of joy and peace. Which happen to be the sixteenth and seventeenth levels of consciousness in this book. We are moving into a phase of human evolution that will require the highest level of individual awareness, commitment, and accountability in order to thrive spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically. Let us share our observations openly so we can trust our intuitions. Here is my observation, I hope it inspires others to share theirs because we are all students in this process, no one has ever been here before.

The Conflict of Laws (Clarendon Law Series)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 297.16 $Adrian Briggs' invaluable introduction to the study of the conflict of laws provides a survey and analysis of the rules of private international law as they apply in England. The volume covers general principles, jurisdiction, and the effect of foreign judgments; choice of law for contractual and non-contractual obligations, the private international law of property, of persons, and of corporations. It does so in a manner which explains and illuminates the principles which underpin the subject in a clear and coherent fashion, as the wealth of literature, case law, and legislation often obscures the architecture of the subject and unnecessarily complicates study. This new edition organizes its material in light of European legislation on private international law, reflecting the shift towards understanding private international law as European law with a common law background instead of common law with European legislative influences. The author's approach is focused on the law and avoids the more abstract theory; as the theory of the conflict of laws is actually to be found in and by applying the legislation and jurisprudence to the cases and issues which arise in private international litigation and legal advice.

Visuality for Architects (p)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 28.62 $What is more important in architectural works―their form, shape, and color, or the meanings and symbolism that can be associated with them? Can aesthetic judgments of architecture be independent of the stories one can tell about buildings? Do non-architects perceive buildings in the same way as do architects? For the greater part of the twentieth century it was common to respond to these and similar questions by relying on psychological theories asserting there is no innocent eye, that we think only in language, and that human visuality results from preexisting, conceptual knowledge. Dramatic breakthroughs in philosophy and psychology over the past two decades, however, have shown us that human visuality functions for the most part independently of conceptual thinking and language. This book examines the ways in which new theories of human visuality create a different understanding of architectural design, practice, and education. This new understanding coincides with and supports formalist approaches to architecture that have become influential in recent years as a result of the digital revolution in architectural design.

On Being Here to Stay : Treaties and Aboriginal Rights in Canada
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 36.00 $What, other than numbers and power, justifies Canada’s assertion of sovereignty and jurisdiction over the country’s vast territory? Why should Canada’s original inhabitants have to ask for rights to what was their land when non-Aboriginal people first arrived? The question lurks behind every court judgment on Indigenous rights, every demand that treaty obligations be fulfilled, and every land-claims negotiation.Addressing these questions has occupied anthropologist Michael Asch for nearly thirty years. In On Being Here to Stay, Asch retells the story of Canada with a focus on the relationship between First Nations and settlers.Asch proposes a way forward based on respecting the “spirit and intent” of treaties negotiated at the time of Confederation, through which, he argues, First Nations and settlers can establish an ethical way for both communities to be here to stay.

American Faith
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 42.00 $Christopher Churchill's debut monograph 'American Faith' offers a unique perspective into the collective nature of the word 'faith.' It explores the way both secular and non-secular individuals address the basic need to be connected to something greater. Churchill approaches this task without dogma or judgment; his travels steer us through brothels, mega churches, and into living rooms, always with honesty and respect for the subjects. Interspersed we find quiet, expansive landscapes that give a geographical context to the scope of the project. Using an 8 x 10-inch view camera, Churchill manages to depict an intimate presence with each photograph. The individual portraits are paired with interviews of the subjects. We find at the end a beautiful and deep commonality in the way that individuals search for a voice and meaning to their lives. Christopher Churchill s works are held in many public collections including The Center for Creative Photography; The Corcoran Gallery; The J. Paul Getty Museum; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. This first printing of American Faith is limited to 1,000 casebound copies.

Differences in Medicine: Unraveling Practices, Techniques, and Bodies (Body, Commodity, Text)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 52.77 $Western medicine—especially in contrast with non-Western traditions of medical practice—is widely thought of as a coherent and unified field in which beliefs, definitions, and judgments are shared. Marc Berg and Annemarie Mol debunk this myth with an interdisciplinary and intercultural collection of essays that reveals the significantly varied ways practitioners of “conventional” Western medicine handle bodies, study test results, configure statistics, and converse with patients .Combining theoretical work with interviews and direct observation of the activities and interactions of doctors, nurses, technicians, and patients, the contributors to this volume provide comparative studies of specific cases. Individual chapters explore topics such as the contested domain of fetal surgery in a California hospital, the construction of gender identity before transsexual surgery in Germany, and differences in the treatment and definition of pain by two clinics in France. Differences in Medicine advances earlier studies on medicine’s social diversity and regional variations to expose significant differences in the presumptions and decisions that affect patients’ lives, and marks a dramatic development in both the study of medicine and in science studies generally. Revealing the ways in which the bodies and lives of people are constructed as medical objects by practitioners, technologies, and textbooks, this collection calls for and initiates new, more textured investigations and theories of the body in medicine and the practice of science. It will open new discussions among medical and healthcare professionals as well as scholars in medical anthropology, science studies, sociology, philosophy, and the history of medicine.Contributors. Isabelle Baszanger, Marc Berg, Geoffrey C. Bowker, Monica J. Casper, Charis M. Cussins, Nicolas Dodier, Stefan Hirschauer, Annemarie Mol, Vicky Singleton, Susan Leigh Star, Stefan Timmermans, Dick Willems
