Manfred Gutzke was born in 1926 in a small town in northern Germany and by the age of 6 he had already felt the effects of Hitler's dictatorship. From that point on, everything had changed, even for those in a small town. When war came he only joined the SS because he liked the uniforms and the fact that they would let him be part of a 88mm gun crew.He didn't know what it meant to be in the SS, but he quickly found out what it meant during and after World War II. He survived the war on the Russian Front and life as a POW and years later he wrote it all down, giving instructions to his son Roy that it wasn't to be read until after his death. This is his story.
