This set of 4 hand-blown borosilicate (the same glass used in French Coffee Presses) serving glasses date back to 17th century Europe, where they were known as Schnapps Pfeiffen. The Library Beyond the Book (metaLABprojects)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 31.54 $With textbook readers and digital downloads proliferating, it is easy to imagine a time when printed books will vanish. Such forecasts miss the mark, argue Jeffrey Schnapp and Matthew Battles. Future bookshelves will not be wholly virtual, and libraries will thrive―although in a variety of new social, cultural, and architectural forms. Schnapp and Battles combine deep study of the library’s history with a record of institutional and technical innovation at metaLAB, a research group at the forefront of the digital humanities. They gather these currents in The Library Beyond the Book, exploring what libraries have been in the past to speculate on what they will become: hybrid places that intermingle books and ebooks, analog and digital formats, paper and pixels.Libraries have always been mix-and-match spaces, and remix is their most plausible future scenario. Speculative and provocative, The Library Beyond the Book explains book culture for a world where the physical and the virtual blend with ever increasing intimacy.

Petömihályfa
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 38.58 $Philip Gaißer spent a hot summer in Peto miha lyfa, a small Hungarian village where farmers cultivate the fruit to make Palinka, a potent brand of schnapps. At night the artist took photographs of the dainty fruit as he went past without looking through the camera viewfinder. The flash of the camera plucks them from the darkness: blue plums, yellow grapes and velvety peaches thus reveal their true beauty. Gaißer contrasts each image with a page showing a color gradient that corresponds to the color of each particular fruit. The result is a coming together of natural setting and photographic reflection. Philip Gaißer (b. 1980) lives and works in Hamburg and Leipzig. His work has been shown at different venues including Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof, Dresden Albertinum and more recently Camera Austria in Graz. He wasalso honored with the 2013 Fo rderpreis annual advancement award presented by the Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung, Hohenlockstedt.
