Webber (an Prof. Werner Schneider) mit OBriefumschlag. - At the beginning of the academic year 1968-69 the situation at New York Theological Seminary was bleak. Situated in the heart of New York City, its twelve-story building was only partially occupied, the enrollment less than 100 full-time students, and the financial situation such that closing the seminary seemed to be the only practical course of action. Beginning in 1970, under the direction of the new president, George W. Webber, NYTS dismantled the traditional patterns of a theological seminary and began its unique educational mission with a focus on urban ministry. Webber here gives the history and explains the educational philosophy during these years of change. The example of NYTS can serve as a model for all theological education. Four educators offer commentary on the story: Dorothy Ann Kelly, OSU; Robert Wood Lynn, Eldin Villafane; and Gayraud Wilmore. (Verlagstext) / INHALT : Foreword -- Introduction -- 1.
