Value Distribution Theory
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 28.76 $The purpose of this research monograph is to build up a modern value distribution theory for complex analytic mappings between abstract Riemann surfaces. All results presented herein are new in that, apart from the classical background material in the last chapter, there is no over lapping with any existing monograph on merom orphic functions. Broadly speaking the division of the book is as follows: The Introduction and Chapters I to III deal mainly with the theory of mappings of arbitrary Riemann surfaces as developed by the first named author; Chapter IV, due to Nakai, is devoted to meromorphic functions on parabolic surfaces; Chapter V contains Matsumoto's results on Picard sets; Chapter VI, pre dominantly due to the second named author, presents the so-called nonintegrated forms of the main theorems and includes some joint work by both authors. For a complete list of writers whose results have been discussed we refer to the Author Index.

Extreme Value Distributions: Theory and Applications
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 25.74 $This important book provides an up-to-date comprehensive and down-to-earth survey of the theory and practice of extreme value distributions -- one of the most prominent success stories of modern applied probability and statistics. Originated by E J Gumbel in the early forties as a tool for predicting floods, extreme value distributions evolved during the last 50 years into a coherent theory with applications in practically all fields of human endeavor where maximal or minimal values (the so-called extremes) are of relevance. The book is of usefulness both for a beginner with a limited probabilistic background and to expert in the field.

Theories of Value and Distribution Since Adam Smith; Ideology and Economic Theory,
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 54.64 $Mr Dobb examines the history of economic thought in the light of the modern controversy over capital theory and, more particularly, the appearance of Sraffa's book The Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities, which was a watershed in the critical discussions constituted a crucial turning-point in the history of economics: an estimate not unconnected with his reinterpretation of nineteenth-century economic thought as consisting of two streams or traditions commonly confused under the generic title of 'the classical tradition' against which Jevons so strongly reacted.

Theory of Value and Distribution in Economics : Discussions Between Pierangelo Garegnani and Paul Samuelson
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 75.82 $This new volume explores two alternative economic theories – the classical theory and the marginalist or neoclassical theory- through a discussion between two eminent economists, Pierangelo Garegnani and Paul Samuelson. The key themes of the volume are the difference in approaches to the explanation of the distribution of income and relative prices, and therefore different approaches to all other economic problems, in particular capital accumulation and economic growth. The book discusses whether there is a ‘classical’ approach to the theory of value and distribution at the core of economic theory that is fundamentally different from the later marginalist or neoclassical theory. In the volume, the late Pierangelo Garegnani argues for the validity of Piero Sraffa’s position on this issue, whilst the late noble laureate Paul Samuelson vehemently contests it. At a time of economic crisis, the future of the discipline is far from certain, and so it is extremely important to bring these debates back into the light, by reproducing them together for the first time. A comprehensive introduction by Heinz Kurz sets the debate in this context, and provides crucial background to the arguments.

Theories of Income Distribution (Recent Economic Thought, 12)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 178.51 $This book brings together the work of scholars who have written for it independent essays in their areas of particular expertise in the general field of income distribution. The first eight chapters provide a review of the major theories of income distribution, while the final two are con cerned with problems of empirical estimates and inferences. One of these chapters presents estimates of factor shares in national income in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, while the other ex amines how relationships between the size distribution of income and economic development are being investigated. A convenient way of conveying an understanding of how economic theorists have dealt with the distribution of income is to examine separ ately each major approach to this subject. Each contributor was thus assigned a particular approach, or a major theorist. No attempt was made to avoid the apparent duplication that occurs when the same references are examined by different contributors. The reader gains by seeing how the same material can be treated by those looking at it from different perspectives. A chapter each has been devoted to Marx and Marshall.

Distributions : Theory and Applications
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 71.91 $This textbook is an application-oriented introduction to the theory of distributions, a powerful tool used in mathematical analysis. The treatment emphasizes applications that relate distributions to linear partial differential equations and Fourier analysis problems found in mechanics, optics, quantum mechanics, quantum field theory, and signal analysis. The book is motivated by many exercises, hints, and solutions that guide the reader along a path requiring only a minimal mathematical background.

The Analysis of Linear Partial Differential Operators I: Distribution Theory and Fourier Analysis (Classics in Mathematics)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 67.65 $The main change in this edition is the inclusion of exercises with answers and hints. This is meant to emphasize that this volume has been written as a general course in modern analysis on a graduate student level and not only as the beginning of a specialized course in partial differen tial equations. In particular, it could also serve as an introduction to harmonic analysis. Exercises are given primarily to the sections of gen eral interest; there are none to the last two chapters. Most of the exercises are just routine problems meant to give some familiarity with standard use of the tools introduced in the text. Others are extensions of the theory presented there. As a rule rather complete though brief solutions are then given in the answers and hints. To a large extent the exercises have been taken over from courses or examinations given by Anders Melin or myself at the University of Lund. I am grateful to Anders Melin for letting me use the problems originating from him and for numerous valuable comments on this collection. As in the revised printing of Volume II, a number of minor flaws have also been corrected in this edition. Many of these have been called to my attention by the Russian translators of the first edition, and I wish to thank them for our excellent collaboration.

The Theory of Distributions: A Nontechnical Introduction
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 38.00 $This book is a self-contained introduction to the theory of distributions, sometimes called generalized functions. Most books on this subject are either intuitive or else rigorous but technically demanding. Here, by concentrating on the essential results, the authors have introduced the subject in a way that will most appeal to non-specialists, yet is still mathematically correct. Topics covered include: the Dirac delta function, generalized functions, dipoles, quadrupoles, pseudofunctions and Fourier transforms. The self-contained treatment does not require any knowledge of functional analysis or topological vector spaces; even measure theory is not needed for most of the book. The book, which can be used either to accompany a course or for self-study, is liberally supplied with exercises. It will be a valuable introduction to the theory of distributions and their applications for students or professionals in statistics, physics, engineering and economics.

The Neoclassical Theory of Production and Distribution
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 49.02 $The object of this book is to present a complete, systematic and thorough exposition of the neoclassical theory of production and distribution. Despite this basic objective, each chapter presents extensions of neoclassical theory and interpretations of established relations. The book has two distinct parts. In Part I the microeconomic theories of production, cost and derived input demand are explored in depth for both fixed-proportions and variable-proportions production functions. Special emphasis is placed upon the characteristics and implications of production functions homogeneous of degree one. Part II is devoted chiefly to the neoclassical theory of aggregate relative factor shares, the elasticity of substitution, and technological progress.
