Wavelets for Computer Graphics: Theory and Applications (The Morgan Kaufmann Series in Computer Graphics)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 5.66 $This distinctly accessible introduction to wavelets provides computer graphics professionals and researchers with the mathematical foundations for understanding and applying this powerful tool.Wavelets are rapidly becoming a core technique in computer graphics, with applications for* Image editing and compression* Automatic level-of-detail control for editing and rendering curves and surfaces* Surface reconstruction from contours* Physical simulation for global illumination and animationStressing intuition and clarity, this book offers a solid understanding of the theory of wavelets and their proven applications in computer graphics.Although previous introductions to wavelets have presented an elegant mathematical framework, that framework is too restrictive to apply to many problems in graphics. In contrast, this book focuses on a generalized theory that naturally accommodates the kinds of objects that commonly arise in computer graphics, including images, open curves, and surfaces of arbitrary topology. This book also contains a foreword by Ingrid Daubechies and an appendix covering the necessary background material in linear algebra.

Wavelet-Fractal & Neuro-Fuzzy for Brain Computer Interface Application
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 52.51 $The ultimate objective of brain-computer interface (BCI) is to provide humans an alternative communication channel allowing direct transmission of messages from the brain to a computer by analyzing the brain’s mental activities. The BCI is usually described that a person has the ability to communicate with others without the prerequisite of brain’s normal output pathways of peripheral nerves and muscles by controlling his own electroencephalographic (EEG) signals. In BCI applications, the performance and reliability of mental task analysis greatly depend on feature extraction and representation. In this book, a series of methods are proposed, including t-test-weighted time-scale plot, active segment selection, multiresolution fractal feature vector (MFFV) associated with genetic algorithm (GA), and neuro-fuzzy time-series prediction to effectively extract, select, and represent features for better classification accuracy. Compared to other well-known approaches, the experimental results show that the proposed methods are superior on both real finger movement and motor-imagery (MI) data for BCI applications.

Wavelets and Other Orthogonal Systems with Applications
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 55.66 $This book makes accessible to both mathematicians and engineers important elements of the theory, construction, and application of orthogonal wavelets. It is integrated with more traditional orthogonal series, such as Fourier series and orthogonal polynomials. It treats the interaction of both with generalized functions (delta functions), which have played an important part in engineering theory but whose rules are often vaguely presented. Unlike most other books that are excessively technical, this text/reference presents the basic concepts and examples in a readable form. Much of the material on wavelets has not appeared previously in book form. Applications to statistics, sampling theorems, and stochastic processes are given. In particular, the close affinity between wavelets and sampling theorems is explained and developed.

Wavelets and Operators
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 39.95 $Over the last two years, wavelet methods have shown themselves to be of considerable use to harmonic analysts and, in particular, advances have been made concerning their applications. The strength of wavelet methods lies in their ability to describe local phenomena more accurately than a traditional expansion in sines and cosines can. Thus, wavelets are ideal in many fields where an approach to transient behaviour is needed, for example, in considering acoustic or seismic signals, or in image processing. Yves Meyer stands the theory of wavelets firmly upon solid ground by basing his book on the fundamental work of Calderón, Zygmund and their collaborators. For anyone who would like an introduction to wavelets, this book will prove to be a necessary purchase.

Wavelets Time Frequency Methods and Phase Space
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 32.15 $From the back cover: " Time-frequency methods and phase space are well known to most physicists, engineers and mathematicians as is the traditional Fourier analysis. Recently the latter found for quite a few applications a competitor in the concept of wavelets. Crudely speaking a wavelet decomposition is an expansion of an arbitrary function into smooth localized contributions labeled by a scale and a position parameter. Wavelets reports on a meeting that brought together people exploring and applying these concepts in an interdisciplinary framework. The topics discussed range from purely mathematical aspects over signal analysis, seismic and acoustic applications via animal sonar systems to wavelets in compute vision. "

Wavelet Methods for Time Series Analysis
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 82.14 $The analysis of time series data is essential to many areas of science, engineering, finance and economics. This introduction to wavelet analysis "from the ground level and up," and to wavelet-based statistical analysis of time series focuses on practical discrete time techniques, with detailed descriptions of the theory and algorithms needed to understand and implement the discrete wavelet transforms. Numerous examples illustrate the techniques on actual time series. The many embedded exercises--with complete solutions provided in the Appendix--allow readers to use the book for self-guided study. Additional exercises can be used in a classroom setting. A Web site offers access to the time series and wavelets used in the book, as well as information on accessing software in S-Plus and other languages. Students and researchers wishing to use wavelet methods to analyze time series will find this book essential. Author resource page: http://faculty.washington.edu/dbp/wmtsa.html

Wavelet Transforms and Their Applications
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 154.55 $Overview Historically, the concept of "ondelettes" or "wavelets" originated from the study of time-frequency signal analysis, wave propagation, and sampling theory. One of the main reasons for the discovery of wavelets and wavelet transforms is that the Fourier transform analysis does not contain the local information of signals. So the Fourier transform cannot be used for analyzing signals in a joint time and frequency domain. In 1982, Jean MorIet, in collaboration with a group of French engineers, first introduced the idea of wavelets as a family of functions constructed by using translation and dilation of a single function, called the mother wavelet, for the analysis of nonstationary signals. However, this new concept can be viewed as the synthesis of various ideas originating from different disciplines including mathematics (Calder6n-Zygmund operators and Littlewood-Paley theory), physics (coherent states in quantum mechanics and the renormalization group), and engineering (quadratic mirror filters, sideband coding in signal processing, and pyramidal algorithms in image processing). Wavelet analysis is an exciting new method for solving difficult problems in mathematics, physics, and engineering, with modern applications as diverse as wave propagation, data compression, image processing, pattern recognition, computer graphics, the detection of aircraft and submarines, and improvement in CAT scans and other medical image technology. Wavelets allow complex information such as music, speech, images, and patterns to be decomposed into elementary forms, called the fundamental building blocks, at different positions and scales and subsequently reconstructed with high precision.
