The first two volumes of a highly anticipated four-volume catalogue raisonné of all known works by Eva Hesse The work of Eva Hesse (1936–1970) has been the focus of growing attention over the past few decades. With recent major exhibitions in San Francisco, London, and Wiesbaden, Hesse’s tremendous contribution to the art world of the 1960s and '70s is now recognized by scholars and the general public alike. During her career, Hesse created 135 paintings and 176 sculptures, objects, and test pieces. As her paintings are less well known than her sculptures, Volume I will be a revelation to many. Revealed here are 28 previously unknown paintings, including works that date from her time as an art student at Yale University. He was trained and practised as an architect until 1906, when he switched to poster design. Hohlwein's adaptations of photographic images was based on a deep and intuitive understanding of graphical principles. His creative use of color and architectural compositions dispels any suggestion that he uses photos as a substitute for creative design. There were two schools of "Gebrauchsgrafik" in Germany at the time, North and South. Hohlwein's high tonal contrasts and a network of interlocking shapes made his work instantly recognizable.

Les accords de Wiesbaden, début octobre, permettent un moment d’espérer une solution à l’amiable du problème des réparations. Mais quelques jours plus tard, la décision prise par la SDN de partager la Haute-Silésie entre la Pologne et l’Allemagne est suivie d’une nouvelle et grave détérioration des relations internationales. L’opinion allemande ressent le partage comme une injustice. Le rapprochement franco-allemand, à peine ébauché, est arrêté et la bonne entente franco-britannique, que Briand avait restaurée, compromise. Dans le bassin danubien, où la situation n’est pas encore totalement stabilisée, la diplomatie française s’emploie avec efficacité à désamorcer les crises. En Europe orientale les affaires sont plus calmes; la paix est revenue entre Polonais et Soviétiques; Paris se soucie toutefois de l’éventualité d’un rapprochement germano-soviétique. Au Levant, le difficile règlement de l’héritage ottoman contribue à aggraver la détérioration du climat entre Paris et Londres. Briand entreprend de redresser la position diplomatique de la France, d’abord en allant en personne, en novembre, à la conférence du désarmement convoquée à Washington par le président américain; son espoir de ranimer l’amitié franco-américaine est déçu. En décembre, il va à Londres rencontrer Lloyd George, espérant rétablir l’entente franco-britannique. Le Premier britannique a en tête un nouveau projet de reconstruction économique et d’apaisement politique en Europe, incluant l’Allemagne et même la Russie. L’affaire sera débattue en janvier 1922 à la conférence internationale que l’on décide de réunir à Cannes. L’année 1921 se termine donc sur des incertitudes.
