This remarkably detailed local history covers the Buffalo Valley region in central Pennsylvania. It gives a wealth of historical data including numerous lists of residents, taxpayers, marriages and deaths on a year by year basis. It is also replete with historical text describing the settlement and development of the area, and includes numerous excerpts from early diaries and journals of early residents and travelers. Appendices contain a list of officials at the state and local level; a long list of deaths beginning in 1826; an extensive military roster for 1861-1865; and a listing of Civil War soldiers buried in Union County cemeteries.

After four years' absence he experienced the terrors of Emperor Domitian's last years and turned to historical writing. He was a consul in 97. (iv) Histories (probably issued in parts from 105 onwards), a great work originally consisting of at least twelve books covering the period 69–96 CE, but only Books I–IV and part of Book V survive, dealing in detail with the dramatic years 69–70. (v) Annals, Tacitus's other great work, originally covering the period 14–68 CE (Emperors Tiberius, Gaius, Claudius, Nero) and published between 115 and about 120. Of sixteen books at least, there survive Books I–IV (covering the years 14–28); a bit of Book V and all Book VI (31–37); part of Book XI (from 47); Books XII–XV and part of Book XVI (to 66).Tacitus is renowned for his development of a pregnant concise style, character study, and psychological analysis, and for the often terrible story which he brilliantly tells. There is a mine of information in this large, illustrated chronicle of London which presents almost a thousand years of history through year-by-year accounts. After a general overview of prehistoric and Saxon London, Richardson begins with 1065 and the causes of the Norman Conquest and ends with the erection of the Dome and the London Eye. In between are entries which illustrate the daily life, disasters and achievements of London as well as other events, such as the siege of 1141 and the plague in 1348, which reflect national crises. The entries record the gradual construction of the London that can be seen today, such as the building campaigns at the Tower of London and the destruction of many of its buildings. An enjoyable read on London's past.

For many generations, the Nahuas of Mexico maintained their tradition of the xiuhpohualli. or "year counts," telling and performing their history around communal firesides so that the memory of it would not be lost. When the Spaniards came, young Nahuas took the Roman letters taught to them by the friars and used the new alphabet to record historical performances by elders. Between them, they wrote hundreds of pages, which circulated widely within their communities. Over the next century and a half, their descendants copied and recopied these texts, sometimes embellishing, sometimes extracting, and often expanding them chronologically.The annals, as they have usually been called, were written not only by Indians but also for Indians, without regard to European interests. As such they are rare and inordinately valuable texts. They have often been assumed to be both largely anonymous and at least partially inscrutable to modern ears. In this work, Nahuatl scholar Camilla Townsend reveals the authors of most of the texts, restores them to their proper contexts, and makes sense of long misunderstood documents. She follows a remarkable chain of Nahua historians, generation by generation, exploring who they were, what they wrote, and why they wrote it. Sometimes they conceived of their work as a political act, reinstating bonds between communities, or between past, present, and future generations.
