To Boredom and Back
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 100.76 $So much for marriage ministries. This book perpetrates the old shepherding movement heresy that "the man is all, the woman is nothing, so keep your place, little woman, and bow to your husband the king!" The Axtell's marriage went down the tubes a number of years ago; the wife wrote her own book during the divorce to confess that their wonderful marriage had been a sham for a long while, and shared how miserable she'd been. She also went into some detail describing the more bizarre aspects of their weird relationship which had centered around as odd spiritual theology that included an old boyfriend. To Boredom and Back and the other books this couple wrote are too wacked out to be taken seriously by any troubled marriage. Take my advice and go elsewhere for spiritual help.

Beat Boredom: Engaging Tuned-Out Teenagers
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 39.29 $Are your students bored in class? According to research, a majority of American high school students report being bored in class and fewer than 5% claimed that they were rarely bored during a typical day in school. Former journalist and veteran teacher Martha Rush decided this would not do for her Minnesota students. Moving beyond asking open-ended questions and making connections to their own lives, Martha began to engage her government, journalism, and economics classes in meaty discussions, competitions, simulations, and authentic work, like running a newspaper or starting a business. Building on her more than 800 interviews with high school graduates, she offers up strategies in all subject areas for active engagement, moving way beyond traditional passive memorization of information. She describes how to create innovative experiences in your classroom, and shares her own lessons and her students’ work. Beat Boredom will help you join the ranks of teachers who have challenged the status quo and found ways to motivate even the most reluctant learners.

Philosophy Of Boredom
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 27.69 $It has been described as a "tame longing without any particular object" by Schopenhauer, "a bestial and indefinable affliction" by Dostoevsky, and "time's invasion of your world system" by Joseph Brodsky, but still very few of us today can explain precisely what boredom is. A Philosophy of Boredom investigates one of the central preoccupations of our age as it probes the nature of boredom, how it originated, how and why it afflicts us, and why we cannot seem to overcome it by any act of will. Lars Svendsen brings together observations from philosophy, literature, psychology, theology, and popular culture, examining boredom's pre-Romantic manifestations in medieval torpor, philosophical musings on boredom from Pascal to Nietzsche, and modern explorations into alienation and transgression by twentieth-century artists from Beckett to Warhol. A witty and entertaining account of our dullest moments and most maddening days, A Philosophy of Boredom will appeal to anyone curious to know what lies beneath the overwhelming inertia of inactivity.

Fada: Boredom and Belonging in Niger
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 27.03 $Niger most often comes into the public eye as an example of deprivation and insecurity. Urban centers have become concentrated areas of unemployment filled with young men trying, against all odds, to find jobs and fill their time with meaningful occupations. At the heart of Adeline Masquelier’s groundbreaking book is the fada—a space where men gather to escape boredom by talking, playing cards, listening to music, and drinking tea. As a place in which new forms of sociability and belonging are forged outside the unattainable arena of work, the fada has become an integral part of Niger’s urban landscape. By considering the fada as a site of experimentation, Masquelier offers a nuanced depiction of how young men in urban Niger engage in the quest for recognition and reinvent their own masculinity in the absence of conventional avenues to self-realization. In an era when fledgling and advanced economies alike are struggling to support meaningful forms of employment, this book offers a timely glimpse into how to create spaces of stability, respect, and creativity in the face of diminished opportunities and precarity.

The Power of Boredom: Why boredom is essential for creating a meaningful life
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 480.15 $In this ground-breaking new book, teacher, counsellor, and philosopher Mark Hawkins reveals a whole new understanding of boredom. Society teaches us that boredom is negative and something to be avoided. In this age of distraction, it is so easy to fill our boredom with work, activities, and quick entertainment. But avoiding boredom prevents us from using it to create a life full of meaning and purpose. Mark gets to the core of why boredom is the most powerful human emotion. Drawing from psychology, philosophy, and personal experiences, Mark shows us that boredom can be seen as spaces in time containing pure creative potential available for self and life transformation. Along the way, Mark provides a perspective of boredom that can sometimes be counter-intuitive. For example, why busy people may, in fact, be the most bored, and why filling your boredom with the wrong things can actually create more of it. It’s time to stop distracting yourself from life and start living it. You will learn: What boredom really is Destructive reactions to boredom Why boredom is a powerful form of meditation How to tune in to boredom to improve your life Why boredom is needed in daily life The link between boredom and creativity
