Characterization of Porous Solids and Powders: Surface Area, Pore Size and Density (Particle Technology Series, 16)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 165.67 $The growth of interest in newly developed porous materials has prompted the writing of this book for those who have the need to make meaningful measurements without the benefit of years of experience. One might consider this new book as the 4th edition of "Powder Surface Area and Porosity" (Lowell & Shields), but for this new edition we set out to incorporate recent developments in the understanding of fluids in many types of porous materials, not just powders. Based on this, we felt that it would be prudent to change the title to "Characterization of Porous Solids and Powders: Surface Area, Porosity and Density". This book gives a unique overview of principles associated with the characterization of solids with regard to their surface area, pore size, pore volume and density. It covers methods based on gas adsorption (both physi and chemisorption), mercury porosimetry and pycnometry. Not only are the theoretical and experimental basics of these techniques presented in detail but also, in light of the tremendous progress made in recent years in materials science and nanotechnology, the most recent developments are described. In particular, the application of classical theories and methods for pore size analysis are contrasted with the most advanced microscopic theories based on statistical mechanics (e.g. Density Functional Theory and Molecular Simulation). The characterization of heterogeneous catalysts is more prominent than in earlier editions; the sections on mercury porosimetry and particularly chemisorption have been updated and greatly expanded.

Characterization and Design of Zeolite Catalysts : Solid Acidity, Shape Selectivity and Loading Properties
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 113.23 $Catalysis and catalyst is a key technology to solve the problems in energy and environment issues to sustain our human society. We believe that comprehensive understanding of the catalysis and catalyst provides us a chance to develop a new catalyst and contributes greatly to our society. However, the ?eld of heterogeneous catalyst is dif?cultto study andstill stays behindmoredeveloped?elds ofchemistry such as organic and physical chemistries. This is a dilemma to the chemists who study the catalysis and catalyst. While we can accomplish the progress in the - dustrial application, the scienti?c understandingis not complete yet. A gap between the useful application and incomplete scienti?c understanding, however, becomes smaller and smaller in recent years. Because zeolites are ?ne crystals, and the structure is clearly known, the study on the catalysis using the zeolites is easier than those encountered in other catalysts such as metals and metal oxides. Very fortunately, zeolites provide us the strong acidity with the ?ne distribution which enables various useful catalytic reactions. When some metals and cations are loaded in close to the acid sites, these loadede- ments show extraordinarycharacters, and many catalytic reactions proceed thereon.

Characterization in Semiconductor Compound Processing (Materials Characterization Series)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 40.00 $The book will have two major sections, one on Si based systems and the other on compound semiconductor systems. Although there are many materials common to both technologies, the applications, processing, and problems seen, are different enough to warrant this separation. In the silicon section there will be a chapter on semiconducting layers, such as epi SI, SOI layers, Si Ge films, etc., discussing the techniques used in problem-solving in these films. In the area of conducting films there will be chapters of doped poly Si, silicides and polycides, Al- and/or Cu-cased films, W-based films and one on barrier materials. Each of these systems is sufficiently different to benefit from a different author and a separate discussion of the types of problems encountered. This section will then be completed by a chapter or dielectric films. Even though there are a number of different applications for dielectrics, i.e. passivation films, intermetal dielectrics, gate oxides, field oxides, ad

Characterization of Polymer Blends: Miscibility, Morphology and Interfaces
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 533.00 $Filling the gap for a reference dedicated to the characterization of polymer blends and their micro and nano morphologies, this book provides comprehensive, systematic coverage in a one-stop, two-volume resource for all those working in the field. Leading researchers from industry and academia, as well as from government and private research institutions around the world summarize recent technical advances in chapters devoted to their individual contributions. In so doing, they examine a wide range of modern characterization techniques, from microscopy and spectroscopy to diffraction, thermal analysis, rheology, mechanical measurements and chromatography. These methods are compared with each other to assist in determining the best solution for both fundamental and applied problems, paying attention to the characterization of nanoscale miscibility and interfaces, both in blends involving copolymers and in immiscible blends. The thermodynamics, miscibility, phase separation, morphology and interfaces in polymer blends are also discussed in light of new insights involving the nanoscopic scale. Finally, the authors detail the processing-morphology-property relationships of polymer blends, as well as the influence of processing on the generation of micro and nano morphologies, and the dependence of these morphologies on the properties of blends. Hot topics such as compatibilization through nanoparticles, miscibility of new biopolymers and nanoscale investigations of interfaces in blends are also addressed. With its application-oriented approach, handpicked selection of topics and expert contributors, this is an outstanding survey for anyone involved in the field of polymer blends for advanced technologies.

Characterization of Materials
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 78.67 $Characterization of Materials covers in a single volume the major techniques increasingly used by physical scientists and engineers working on and with materials. It offers a solid coverage of a broad range of techniques, explaining their foundations, discussing their capabilities and limitations, and teaching their vocabulary. The book is not a manual on the operation of instruments. Instead, it emphasizes the underlying principles, which remain valid in successive generations of instruments. The book is organized following a classification of the fundamental physical processes of interaction between the incoming particles (or radiation) and the physical processes of interaction between the incoming particles (or radiation) and the materials. For the many physicists, chemists, materials scientists, metallurgists, ceramists, chemical engineers, and others who need a learning tool in the subject of materials characterization, and for characterization specialists who need a concise source on techniques outside their area of expertise, this book provides an integrated overview of this broad subject. With Chapters on X-ray methods by Zwi H. Kalman.

Characterization of Metamorphism through Mineral Equilibria (Reviews in Mineralogy)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 53.91 $Volume 10 of Reviews in Mineralogy reviews the use of a powerful probe into metamorphic process: mineral assemblages and the composition of minerals. Put very simply, this volume attempts to answer the question: "What can we learn about metamorphism through the study of minerals in metamorphic rocks?" It is not an encyclopedic summary of metamorphic mineral assemblages; instead it attempts to present basic research strategies and examples of their application. Moreover, in order to limit and unify the subject matter, it concentrates on the chemical aspects of metamorphism and regrettably ignores other important kinds of studies of metamorphic rocks and minerals conducted by structural geologists, structural petrologists, and geophysicists.
