Donal Judd. Architektur
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 61.84 $Donald Judd's "specific objects" (as he termed them) undertook a revolutionary analysis and redefinition of sculpture, establishing him as a leading exponent of what came to be called Minimalism. Somewhat less known are Judd's numerous architectural and furniture designs, works which formally are closely related to his art objects, but which reflect his abiding interest in utility. In 1971, Judd bought an old fort near Marfa, Texas, and by systematically acquiring and transforming local property, he amassed a huge ensemble of contemporary art, with permanent installations of his own work and that of Carl Andre, John Chamberlain, Dan Flavin and others. Donald Judd: Architecture presents drawings, design sketches, ground plans and photographs of the grounds and architecture of this Minimalist desert oasis, and celebrates Judd's role as its visionary architect and stage director. This book first appeared in German in 1991, and has been thoroughly revised and expanded for this, its first English edition.

Donal Grant (Sunrise Centenary Editions of the Works of George MacDonald) (Sunrise Centenary Editions of the Works of George MacDonald : Novels)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 3.95 $The towering sequel to Sir Gibbie and MacDonald's longest book (in pages, 786). This is a novel with everything-a wonderfully bittersweet romance, Gothic castle scenes (the castle in the story is modeled upon Fyvie Castle in Scotland) with a "mad-scientist" type carrying out his evil strategms in cellar, hidden rooms, and secret passageways. Donal Grant also contains some of MacDonald's profoundest (and occasionally lengthy!) spiritual insights, including his "easy to please but hard to satisfy" description of God that was a favorite of Lewis's. Along with Malcolm, this is one of MacDonald's most intricate and riveting plots.

Sir Gibbie & Donal Grant
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 46.51 $George MacDonald (10 December 1824 – 18 September 1905) was a Scottish author, poet, and Christian minister. He was a pioneering figure in the field of fantasy literature and the mentor of fellow writer Lewis Carroll. His writings have been cited as a major literary influence by many notable authors including W. H. Auden, C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien,Walter de la Mare, E. Nesbit and Madeleine L'Engle.C. S. Lewis wrote that he regarded MacDonald as his "master": "Picking up a copy of Phantastes one day at a train-station bookstall, I began to read. A few hours later," said Lewis, "I knew that I had crossed a great frontier." G. K. Chesterton cited The Princess and the Goblin as a book that had "made a difference to my whole existence". Elizabeth Yates wrote of Sir Gibbie, "It moved me the way books did when, as a child, the great gates of literature began to open and first encounters with noble thoughts and utterances were unspeakably thrilling." Even Mark Twain, who initially disliked MacDonald, became friends with him, and there is some evidence that Twain was influenced by MacDonald. Christian author Oswald Chambers wrote in his Christian Disciplines that "it is a striking indication of the trend and shallowness of the modern reading public that George MacDonald's books have been so neglected". In addition to his fairy tales, MacDonald wrote several works on Christian apologetics including several that defended a view that has been described as Christian Universalism.

Eason Favourite Book of the Year 2022 she is no small town, and this is no small story . . .BASED ON THE POPULAR DUBLIN HISTORY PODCASTA companion to the hugely successful podcast of the same name by Donal Fallon, THREE CASTLES BURNING is an enjoyable wander through some of Dublin's less obvious but more interesting streets and roads such as Henrietta Street, Watling Street, Fownes Street and Kildare Road.On the Dublin streets we walk every day, there are hidden reminders of the lesser-known heroes and events that have contributed to the evolving story of our capital. The citys motto, the obedience of the citizens produces a happy city, may feel outdated and loaded today but the three burning castles of its ancient coat of arms have come to represent the indomitable spirit, creativity and vision that define this big town. Inspired by the No. 1 podcast, Three Castles Burning: A History of Dublin in Twelve Streets champions the activists, workers, architects, poets, migrants, artists and merchants who have made and remade the city we know and love by going beneath the many layers of twelve key streets where they lived and worked. Because, in the city Joyce called the Hibernian Metropolis, the disobedience of its citizens is the cornerstone of its past, present and future. This combination of social, cultural, industrial and commercial, and political history, through the prism of the places where revolutions great and small were sparked, offers the reader a fresh and unexpected take on Ireland's capital city. A companion to the hugely successful podcast of the same name by Donal Fallon, THREE CASTLES BURNING is an enjoyable wander through some of Dublin's less obvious but more interesting streets. A Slanting of the Sun: Stories
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 36.75 $Donal Ryan's short stories pick up where his acclaimed novels The Spinning Heart and The Thing About December left off, dealing with dramas set in motion by loneliness and displacement and revealing stories of passion and desire where less astute observers might fail to detect the humanity that roils beneath the surface. Sometimes these dramas are found in ordinary, mundane situations; sometimes they are triggered by a fateful encounter or a tragic decision. At the heart of these stories, crucially, is how people are drawn to each other and cling to love when and where it can be found. In a number of the these stories, emotional bonds are forged by traumatic events caused by one of the characters - between an old man and the frightened young burglar left to guard him while his brother is beaten; between another young man and the mother of a girl whose death he caused when he crashed his car; between a lonely middle-aged shopkeeper and her assistant. Disconnection and new discoveries pervade stories involving emigration (an Irish priest in war-torn Syria) or immigration (an African refugee in Ireland). Some of the stories are set in the same small town in rural Ireland as the novels, with names that will be familiar to Ryan's readers. In haunting prose, Donal Ryan has captured the brutal beauty of the human heart in all its failings, hopes and quiet triumphs.
