Women's Gold / White Dorothea Earring In Glass Opal Castlecliff
Vendor: Wolfandbadger.com Price: 175.00 $ (+10.00 $)The Dorothea Earrings are large-scale and lightweight statement earrings with a modernist vibe. Brass rings are punctuated with a single vintage opalescent stone. All of CASTLECLIFF’s Earrings are cast of certified 100% recycled brass via the ancient art of lost wax casting, combined with upcycled & vintage materials and finished with a sterling silver post. Exclusively handcrafted in NYC. *As Seen in Glamour Magazine* CASTLECLIFF Jewelry is designed, hand-made and hand-finished in NYC. Due to this process each piece is unique and any slight variations are a sign of the hands that created it. Our C R A F T E D pieces are cast in 100% recycled brass in NYC. We avoid the often environmentally toxic process of gold plating whenever possible and therefore many of our pieces will achieve a rich patina with wear. We love the look, but to maintain your piece’s original finish, buff with the enclosed polishing cloth and store in the enclosed anti-tarnish tissue after use. For a non toxic deeper clean we suggest applying white vinegar with a soft cloth (a mix of baking soda and lemon juice will also do the trick). Rinse with warm water and dry immediately. Avoid contact with stones and hollow beads. As with all costume jewelry, last on and first off is the rule. Keep your jewelry clean, dry and away from lotions, chemicals and perfumes.

Dorothea Tanning: Insomnias 1954-1965
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 35.00 $Dorothea Tanning, who was born in 1910 in Galesburg, a town on the Illinois prairie, is one of America’s major surrealist artists. She first came to fame in the 1940s when she showed in the gallery of Julien Levy, New York’s preeminent dealer of surrealism. However, in the 1950s she felt a growing need to move beyond the prevailing idiom of surrealist representation. She describes what happened: “Around 1955 my canvases literally splintered . . . I broke the mirror, you might say.” The resulting paintings are vibrant with faceted colors and shifting spaces. The Insomnias — the group takes its name from a painting of the same title that Tanning made in 1957 — are forays into the realm of conjured energies; they represent a vigorous expansion of form and content at a crucial historical moment that continues to reverberate today. Charles Stuckey describes these “seemingly multidimensional mindspaces” as “among the most ambitious and sophisticated paintings to address the dilemmas of imagination and culture in a new atomic, space-race age.”

Dorothea Lange: Aperture Masters of Photography (The Aperture Masters of Photography Series)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 106.52 $Dorothea Lange (1895-1965) documented rural poverty for the federal Resettlement Administration and Farm Security Administration from 1935 to 1939. Her powerful images--from migrant workers in California fleeing the "dustbowl," to struggling Southern sharecroppers-- became icons of the era. She later photographed Japanese Americans in internment camps during World War II and traveled throughout Europe and Asia. This book presents 42 of the greatest images from throughout Lange's career, including some of her work done abroad. She possessed the ability, as she put it, to photograph "things as they are" and through this her photographs give us "more about the subjects than just the faces." It is no wonder that Edward Steichen called her the greatest documentary photographer in the United States. Linda Gordon contributes a new biographical essay and an image-by-image commentary to accompany a newly selected set of photographs. A professor of humanities and history at New York University, she has written at length on Dorothea Lange. Her 2009 book, "Dorothea Lange: A Life Beyond Limits," won the Bancroft Prize."Lange's work defines an era of destitution and drought, and still resonates even now. This is the perfect introduction to one of the world's greatest photojournalists."--"Practical Photography, "from a review of the original edition.
