Reading the Fascicles of Emily Dickinson: Dwelling in Possibilities
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 30.00 $Heginbotham's book focuses on Emily Dickinson's work as a deliberate writer and editor. The fascicles were forty small portfolios of her poems written between 1856 and 1864, composed on four to seven stationary sheets, folded, stacked, and sewn together with twine. What revelations might come from reading her poems in her own context? Are they simply "scrapbooks," as some claim, or are they evidence of conscious, canny editing? Read in their original places, each lyric becomes different--and more interesting--that when read in isolation.

Oxford College Libraries, Fascicle I [first edition]
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 138.00 $This is the eighth volume in a continuing series of publications listing and identifying all illustrations contained in English manuscripts from the time of Chaucer to Henry VIII. The present fascicle is the first of two which catalogues manuscripts of the College libraries of the University of Oxford. It includes entries for 310 manuscripts for eleven of the colleges. It is the first such study to be undertaken describing all decorative aspects of English manuscripts in Oxford college libraries in the period and it includes 176 manuscripts not recorded by Alexander and Temple and many not previously researched from the viewpoint of pictorial information. Scribes working in pen and ink, rather than pictorial decorators with colours and gold, were responsible for much of the inventive imagery which equals that in miniatures in pigment. Pen and wash drawings are also represented as well as fully-painted miniatures which are mostly confined to devotional books in this Index. The entries in the catalogue note the subject-matter of every illustration in each manuscript, from full-page miniatures and historiated initials to marginalia, added drawings and nota bene signs. A comprehensive index of pictorial subjects provides readers with complete references to the pictorial content with thematic groupings. The volume includes a users' manual, an extensive glossary of subjects and terms and indexes of authors / texts and manuscripts with coats of arms. There are forty-four black and white illustrations.

Hittite Dictionary : P Fascicle 3
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 43.38 $The Hittite language is the earliest preserved member of the Indo-European family of languages. It was written on clay tablets in central Asia Minor over a five hundred year span (c. 1650-1180 b.c.) which witnessed the rise, the floruit, and the decline of many political powers in the Near East. It is studied today for a wide variety of reasons. Historical linguists seek information in Hittite texts to elucidate the relationships between the various member languages of the Indo-European family, as well as the probable structure of their common parent, Proto-Indo-European. Historians find in Hittite annals, treaties, royal edicts, and political correspondence information of great value in reconstructing the sequence of events on the international scene of mid-second-millennium Western Asia. Anthropologists, mythographers, and students of comparative religion mine the riches of Hittite religious texts: myth, magic rituals to cure ailments, festivals to worship the gods of the empire. Students of the history of law discover ancient precedents for legal procedures which have survived to this day. All of these interested researchers share a dependence upon the written texts. None can penetrate further than our limited understanding of this language allows.
