A Computer-Generated Dictionary of Proto-Algonquian (Mercury Series)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 225.00 $For 11,000 years, the Native people of northern Alaska used obsidian, or volcanic glass. The easily flaked, sharp obsidian was the preferred material for many stone implements, and was therefore highly valued and widely traded among Native people. The source of the obsidian, however, remained a mystery to all but the Native people. For four years, the archaeological team of Donald W. Clark and A. McFadyen Clark undertook surveys and excavations in what has come to be designated the Batza Tena area of Alaska. The purpose of their expeditions was to explore the archaeology of AlaskaÕs most important source of obsidian. The expeditions proved fruitful, for not only did they find abundant ancient campsites and toolmaking sites, but their discovery has helped to trace trading networks throughout the Far Northwest. This volume reports on the findings form these extensive archaeological surveys and excavations at Batza Tena. Donald W. Clark has been curator of archaeology at the Canadian Museum of Civilization since 1968. He graduated from the University of Alaska, in Fairbanks, and received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin, in Madison. His fieldwork has ranged from Kodiak Island, in the Gulf of Alaska, to Koyukuk River, in northwestern Alaska, and across the Yukon in Great Bear Lake in the District of Mackenzie. A. McFadyen Clark is curator emeritus at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Prior to her retirement in 1992, she was the MuseumÕs Athapaskan Ethnologist for 23 years. She was trained at George Washington University and the University of Wisconsin, in Madison. Her primary fieldwork has been among the Koyukon Athapaskans of northwestern Alaska.

Digital Design Of Nature: Computer Generated Plants And Organics (Hb)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 38.64 $What is computer graphics and what are the conceptual tasks of research in this area? To the average person the term still conveys more or less the design of - gos and the manipulation of pictures with the help of image-editing programs. However, during the past four decades, computer graphics has evolved into an innovative multifaceted ?eld of research and computing that affects many other sciences. In many areas and for many problems we can best convey an und- standing through images that trigger our sense with the highest capability: our eye. And, what is more, aside from algorithms, formulas, and tables, the c- puter graphics scientist often is able to create beauty. Though it is a beauty of its own, it often fascinates the viewer, especially when complex aesthetic images emerge from simple mathematical concepts. Also, there are only a few other areas that advance as dynamically as inf- matics and especially computer graphics. While CPU capacity still increases and is almost doubled every 18 months, the rendering speed and ef?ciency of graphics boards has increased even more during recent years. Today, images can be rendered in real time that some years ago still required several hours of computing. Parallel to the rapid improvement of computer hardware, many newalgorithms weredevelopedthattoday form the basis for some fundamental changes and achievements in graphics.

Virtual Reality: The Revolutionary Technology of Computer-Generated Artificial Worlds-And How It Promises to Transform Society (Paperback or Softback)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 24.57 $Imagine being able to "walk" into your computer and interact with any program you create. It sounds like science fiction, but it's science fact. Surgeons now rehearse operations on computer-generated "virtual" patients, and architects "walk through" virtual buildings while the actual structures are still in blueprints. In Virtual Reality, Howard Rheingold takes us to the front lines of this revolutionary new technology that creates computer-generated worlds complete with the sensations of touch and motion, and explores its impact on everything from entertainment to particle physics.

Mind over Markets: Power Trading with Market Generated Information
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 79.14 $This book is an examination of Market Profile(tm) charting concepts. The Market Profile principle is also used by knowledgeable and experienced day traders. This is the best available text on the subject. The key element that has long separated tremendously successful traders from all others is their intuitive understanding that time regulates all financial opportunities. In 1984, J. Peter Steidlmayer formally introduced the Market Profile as a way to graphically depict the acceptance or rejection of price over time. For the first time, what had once been the domain of the intuitve trader was not accessible to all traders. The ability to record price information according to time has unleashed huge amounts of useful market information in a form never before available In turn, this information explosion has triggered a new way of looking at markets and opened the doors for accelerated levels of market analysis. Mind Over Markets is a book about learning; learning the dynamics of markets through the organization of price, time and volume, and learning how to synthesize this information with your own intuition. Our goal is to arrie at a healthy balance between the powers of objective observation and intuitive decision-making--a rare talent possessed by only the best of traders.

A Case for Nuclear-Generated Electricity: (Or Why I Think Nuclear Power Is Cool and Why It Is Important That You Think So Too)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 8.45 $Nuclear engineer Heaberlin argues that much of what has been presented to the public about nuclear power has been distorted by people politically pre-disposed to be against it. Writing for a general audience, he takes the reader through an explanation of the basic science of nuclear power operations. He then seeks to assuage worries about the dangers of nuclear accidents and problems of nuclear waste and offers arguments for why nuclear power should be widely adopted to meet society's energy needs. Mind over markets: Power trading with market generated information
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 100.38 $Because many traders lack the knowledge and skills to read the market correctly and the necessary discipline to avoid being distracted by irrelevant "market static", authors James and Robert Dalton and Eric Jones have developed an innovative solution to this problem. In their new book, Mind Over Markets, the authors present a fresh new approach to trading futures. Their suggested approach is elegantly simple -- showing in five basic steps how traders and investors can quickly learn the insights, nuances, subtleties and signals of the market. What readers of this book can pick up in 275 pages normally would take other traders years of painful experience to learn. The Mind Over Markets approach succeeds because it shows how to listen to the market and base their trading decisions on current market information and not on uninformed guesses and hunches, on antiquated trading systems and techniques or on the analysis of outdated past performance all of which are used by most other traders. Among the many topics covered are: introduction to day timeframe structure; market structure, logic and time; trending and bracketed markets; day timeframe trading and pattern recognition; long-term trading; markets to avoid; a business-like approach to trading, including tips on capital requirements, developing good timing skills, gaining knowledge about the competition, understanding risk and setting goals. This title is a co-publication with Probus.

Recursively Enumerable Sets and Degrees: A Study of Computable Functions and Computably Generated Sets (Perspectives in Mathematical Logic)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 46.76 $..."The book, written by one of the main researchers on the field, gives a complete account of the theory of r.e. degrees. .... The definitions, results and proofs are always clearly motivated and explained before the formal presentation; the proofs are described with remarkable clarity and conciseness. The book is highly recommended to everyone interested in logic. It also provides a useful background to computer scientists, in particular to theoretical computer scientists." Acta Scientiarum Mathematicarum, Ungarn 1988 ..."The main purpose of this book is to introduce the reader to the main results and to the intricacies of the current theory for the recurseively enumerable sets and degrees. The author has managed to give a coherent exposition of a rather complex and messy area of logic, and with this book degree-theory is far more accessible to students and logicians in other fields than it used to be." Illumination and Color in Computer Generated Imagery (Monographs in Visual Communication)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 55.57 $In a very broad sense the historical development of computer graphics can be considered in three phases, each a giant step down the road towards "realistic" computer generated images. The first, during the late 1960's and early 1970's, can perhaps be characterized as the "wire frame" era. Basically pictures were composed of lines. Considerable em phasis was placed on "real time" interactive manipulation of the model. As models became more complex and as raster technology developed, eliminating the hidden lines or hidden surfaces from the image became critical for visual understanding. This requirement resulted in the second phase of computer graphics, the "hidden surface" era, that developed during the 1970's and early 1980's. The names associated with hidden surface algorithms read like a who's who of computer graphics. The cul mination of the hidden surface era and the beginning of the current and third era in computer graphics, the "rendering" era, was Turner Whitted's incorporation of a global illumination model into the ray trac ing algorithm. Now the goal was not just to generate an image, but to generate a realistic appearing image.
