Israeli A-4 Skyhawk Units in Combat (Combat Aircraft, 81)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 4.91 $The light and agile A-4 Skyhawk was the first modern American jet to be offered to the Israeli Air Force, marking the point where the US took over from France as Israel's chief military supplier. Deliveries began too late for the A-4 to fight in the Six-Day War (1967), but it soon formed the backbone of the IAF's ground-attack force. From 1969 to 1970 it flew endless sorties against Egyptian forces in the War of Attrition (1967-1970). Then, during the Yom Kippur War (1973), five squadrons of A-4s saw combat and 50 planes were lost as they battled against the Arab armored onslaught. Using previously unpublished first-hand accounts and rare photography from the IAF archives and pilots' private collections, Shlomo Aloni tells the definitive history of the IAF's A-4 squadrons, including the story of Ezra "BABAN" Dotan who became an ace with an unique double-kill of MiG17s.

Israeli Sherman-based Artillery: Volume 1 [first edition]
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 85.00 $This is the first volume of two giving a comprehensive look at the unique Israeli Sherman-based Artillery vehicles. The book looks at these unique vehicles beginning with the improvisations forced upon Haganah and the fledgling IDF in the late 1940s and onwards. The two volumes discuss the contribution of primarily, self-propelled artillery in the development of TZAHAL (Tsva Ha'Haganah le'Yisra'el, Hebrew for Israel Defense Force or IDF), as it was paired with another significant part of IDF history, the Sherman tank. This subject is best understood by also discussing what came immediately before the Sherman-based artillery weapons in IDF service. Actually, the use of weapons more powerful than rifles and machine guns in the region pre-dates the establishment of TZAHAL which did not occur until May 26, 1948, nearly two weeks after independence. Vehicles in this first volume are: M7 Priest and TOMAT M50 155mm.

The Israelis: Founders and Sons
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 32.66 $Israel was built on dreams and strivings, on humanistic principles and hard labour. What was conceived as a country of peace and dignity, however, has emerged as a society of contradictions, ethnic tensions, clashes between the religious and the secular ... a society buffeted by extreme changes in both national and international politics. The ideals of the founders have floundered in the reality of wars and violence. In this dramatic, fair-minded portrait of Israel, first published in 1971, Amos Elon places the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East in brilliant historic perspective. In illuminating the political and philosophical background of the State of Israel, he offers rare insight into the rise to power of Menachem Begin and the complications of the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty, and he shows how Zionism, ironically, led to the development of its bitterest enemy, the Palestinian nationalist movement.

Israeli Fortifications of the October War 1973
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 43.06 $The Bar Lev Line along the Suez Canal was born out of the overwhelming victory of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the Six Day War of 1967. Devastated by their defeat, the Egyptian army began a prolonged campaign of artillery bombardments of Israeli positions causing many casualties. Accordingly, the IDF Chief of Staff, General Haim Bar-Lev, ordered the construction of a series of fortified positions and observation posts that were named the Bar Lev Line by the Israeli press, thanks to its inevitable association with the heavily fortified Maginot Line. This book examines the original 23 positions of the Bar Lev Line, known as Moazims (Moaz is 'castle keep' in Hebrew), each of which were between five and 15 kilometers apart and surrounded by barbed wire and minefields. With rare photographs and cutaway artwork, the design of these positions is described. Finally, the author analyzes the effectiveness of these positions when the Egyptians launched an offensive on Yom Kippur 1973. Manned by just 436 reservists the Moazims were quickly cut off and the Israeli defenders paid a high price with a casualty rate of almost 50 percent. Although widely criticized, the Bar Lev Line proved a success during the war of attrition, and in 1973 it was the political and military failures which allowed the Moazims to be surrounded, rather than the failure of the defensive line itself.

Israeli Mossad: Assassination of Mahmoud Al-mabhouh: the True Story From Insider
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 23.73 $This book is about the Israeli Mossad Assassination of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh. Before his assassination, Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh served as a senior Hamas military commander and was part of the team that founded the brigades of Izz ad-Din al-Qassam. Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh was a terrorist and a known operative of the al-Qassam Brigades responsible for terrorist activities targeting Israel. Al-Qassam’s most proficient terror act was the 1989 abduction and murder of two Israeli soldiers. Before his death, Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh played a crucial role in the procurement of weapons for the al-Qassam squad. Dan Raviv and Yossi Melman are journalists who, in 2010, alleged that al-Mabhouh had played an important role in forging secret linkages between the Gaza based government of Hamas and the Iranian Al-Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards. Killed on 19 January 2010, in a famous hotel in Dubai upon his return from Syria, the life of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh was full of thrilling action¬, something only realized upon his death. His death uncovered many mysteries nobody really cared to know. Even though the chief of the Dubai police force announced their investigations revealed Mossad took part in the murder of al-Mabhouh, and asserted he was completely sure Mossad committed the assassination, the life and death of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh is one full of thrilling suspense and action. This book is where history, scheme, and reality meet. This book is an account of the events that surround Mabhouh’s assassination- told by those who were there, those who saw it all, people you should believe.

The Israeli Economy 1985-1998: From Government Intervention To Market Economics
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 35.28 $From 1973 to 1985, the Israeli economy suffered a deep crisis: the growth rate declined, foreign debt increased, and inflation soared to annual rates of a few hundred percent. This book analyzes the structural reforms initiated between 1985 and 1998 that transformed the Israeli economy from one of heavy government intervention to a market-oriented, open economy. The reforms introduced fiscal discipline, increased central bank independence, and reduced government intervention in capital, labor, and financial markets. Also, competition was fostered in monopoly-controlled markets. The results of these reforms include, among others: a decline from 77 percent to 55 percent in the government expenditure portion of the gross domestic product, a decline from 65 percent of credit volume to 5 percent in government involvement in directing credit, and almost complete elimination of the tight control of the foreign-exchange market. These reforms, together with the mass migration into Israel from the former Soviet Union and the peace process with Israel's neighbors, accelerated economic growth, particularly in the business sector.Topics discussed include the impact of macroeconomic policy and structural reforms on growth, employment, inflation, balance of payments, and the rapid expansion of high-tech industry. The book also examines the consequent increase in income inequality and related problems.

The Israeli Holocaust Against the Palestinians
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 83.00 $Announcing one of the most explosive indictments of the Zionist State ever published! Here is unprecedented documentation of the horrendous atrocities which the Israelis visit upon the Palestinians; the fact-packed answer to the delusions of Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Falwell, Franklin Graham, William Bennett, George Will, Hitchens, Hanson and the legion of other prominent mercenaries and lapdogs of The Lobby. Compiled by two elite scholars with impeccable credentials -- Michael Hoffman, a former reporter for the New York bureau of the Associated Press, and Moshe Lieberman, a former Hebrew University researcher -- the authors combine their sleuthing skills and erudition to bring the reader an irrefutable dossier of Israeli war crimes in Palestine, profusely illustrated with harrowing photos of the death and destruction which the Zionist war machine has administered as collective punishment upon the entire Palestinian nation. Nothing like this book has ever seen print! "The Israeli Holocaust Against the Palestinians" is one of the most explosive indictments of the Zionist state ever published, proving conclusively that the Israelis themselves are guilty of a holocaust. If books can still make a difference--and we believe they can--then "The Israeli Holocaust Against the Palestinians" is a tsunami that will force a sea change in American perceptions of the Middle East crisis. Hoffman and Lieberman make a devastating case for Israeli criminality, while analyzing with profound insight the ferocious Talmudic racism that fuels the Israeli identification of the Palestinian people as "Amalek," and targets them for the final solution of "total eradication." The authors argue that to pretend that Zionist atrocities have not been systematically perpetrated in Palestine as part of a coherent dogma of eliminationism, constitutes nothing less than "holocaust denial."

The Israeli Mind: How the Israeli National Character Shapes Our World
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 28.48 $Israelis are bold and visionary, passionate and generous. But they can also be grandiose and self-absorbed. Emerging from the depths of Jewish history and the drama of the Zionist rebellion against it, they have a deeply conflicted identity. They are willing to sacrifice themselves for the collective, but also to sacrifice that very collective for a higher, and likely unattainable, ideal. Resolving these internal conflicts and coming to terms with the trauma of the Holocaust are imperative to Israel's survival as a nation and to the stability of the world.Alon Gratch, a clinical psychologist whose family has lived in Israel for generations, is uniquely positioned to confront these issues. Like the Israeli psyche that Gratch details, The Israeli Mind is both intimate and universal. Intelligent and forthright, compassionate but sometimes maddening, it is an utterly compelling read. Drawing on a broad cultural and historical canvas, and weaving in the author's personal and professional experience, The Israeli Mind presents a provocative, first-hand portrait of the Israeli national character.
