An exploration of Wharton Esherick's artistic evolution during the early decades of the twentieth century. Based on the exhibition in the Kamin and Kroiz Galleries of the University of Pennsylvania, this work expands upon the exhibition's themes with well over 300 vibrant images and current research, including an essay by Paul Eisenhauer, Curator of the Wharton Esherick Museum. Esherick experimented with woodcarving and printmaking, laying the foundations for his emergence as an artist of remarkable range. In 1976, five years after his death, serious charges were leveled against the distinguished British scientist Sir Cyril Burt. His research on the nature of intelligence was challenged as fraudulent by a number of respected commentators, among them Leon Kamin, Oliver Gillie, Ann and Alan Clarke, and Leslie Hearnshaw. The evidence they marshaled, and the charges themselves are examined here in scrupulous detail. Written as a straightforward defense of Burt, this volume also tells a second story: the intrusion of the mass media into science, the power of the new media, and the success of this invasion, which threatens to replace intellectual authority. Convinced that a great injustice had been done, Fletcher examines each of the charges in detail, subjecting each of Burt’s detractors to a symbolic cross-examination. This Rolling Stones tour was photographed/documented by Philip Kamim, a famous music photographer from Toronto, Canada (b.1955). Unlike most of his peers, Kamin kept most of his collection from the public and copyrighted the images. Some of these he provided to the stars he toured with, others went into 35 music titles his publishing company produced. But thousands of amazing rock and roll images stayed archived in his personal collection." Philip Kamin picked up a camera for the first time in July 1978. A chance encounter with Phil Collins led him to instantly become tour photographer for Genesis. His work met with immediate success, spreading his name throughout the United Kingdom's rock'n'roll circuit. What set Philip Kamin's work apart from many industry photographers was exclusivity: he never sold his photographs to newspapers, magazines or photo agencies. Kamin built his solid reputation by touring and selling his work directly to the bands he photographed, the bands' managers, their public relations firms, record companies or merchandisers. Kamin has "published over 90 books, including 40 in music, plus novels, non-fiction, trade paperbacks and coffee table books in a variety of subjects. In addition to Genesis, Kamin has worked with The Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney & Wings, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, YES, The Clash, AC/DC, Rush, King Crimson, Bill Bruford, Van Halen, Roxy Music, Black Sabbath, The Cars and John Belushi/Dan Ackroyd, just to name a few. Kamin did his last shoot in May 1985 for Madonna.
