Erhalten sind Muskel-männer, Abgüsse mit naturgetreuer Bemalung der Bänder, Knochen und Muskeln, Naturabgüsse gehäuteter Tiere, Skelette, Anschauungsmodelle der inneren Organe und äusserst selten gewordene Bänderskelette in antiken Posen aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Damit liegt die erste Monographie zu diesem Thema vor; sie zeigt, dass und vor allem wie eine Anatomiesammlung Surrogat und Abbild der Natur ist und zugleich im künstleri-schen Zugriff auf die Natur die Lehrkonzeption einer Zeit spiegelt.

Neuware - Cuno Amiet (1868-1961) gehörte zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts zu den Erneuerern der Schweizer Malerei. Er studierte an der Kunstakademie in München, wo er 1887 Giovanni Giacometti kennenlernte. Zusammen setzten sie ihre Studien an der Académie Julian in Paris fort, wo sie Pierre Bonnard und Edouard Vuillard trafen. 1906 trat Amiet der Künstlergruppe Die Brücke bei. Amiets Bildwelt beinhaltet vornehmlich Landschaften, Gärten, Porträts und Stillleben. Er vermochte die Natur in eigenständige, in teils leuchtenden Farben komponierte Bilder zu übersetzen. Zeit seines Lebens beschäftigte ihn insbesondere das Thema der Ernte: «Obsternten», sagte er einmal, «haben mich immer angezogen, so wie die früheren Maler immer Madonnen malten.» Dieser Bildband präsentiert die drei 1912 entstandenen Obsternten, die dazu gehörenden Skizzen, Studien und Entwürfe sowie die Wiederaufnahmen im späteren Schaffen des Künstlers. Zudem sind alle bekannten Bilder Cuno Amiets aus diesem Themenfeld abgebildet.

This profusely illustrated book is the first full-length study of the Canadian-born sculptor David Rabinowitch. Working in New York since 1972 and extensively in Europe since the early 1980s, Rabinowitch became Professor of Sculpture at the Staatliche Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf, in 1984. Whitney Davis closely analyzes six groups of works produced by Rabinowitch between 1963 and the present, comparing their rigorous constructivism with the "minimalism" of American sculptors such as Donald Judd. Davis also explores Rabinowitch's relations to the work of modern painters and sculptors from Cézanne to David Smith, and his involvement with the wider history of art. This title is published in conjunction with an exhibition which opened at the Fogg Museum in September 1996.
