Opera Indologica, Notes Sur La Bhagavadgita(1929): Bouddhisme Et Upanisad(1932), avec une nouvelle Preface de Minoru Hara
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 32.62 $Those who are engaged in serious studies in Buddhism could never overlook the name of E. Lamotte who is noted as one of the greatest scholars in the twentieth century for his monumental contributions to the study of Buddhism. However, little is known of his contributions to the study of Hinduism in his youth. That is to say, as early as in 1929 his monograph Notes sur la Bhagavadgita was published in Paris, with a preface by Louis de La Vallee Poussin. Three years later, J. Przyluski published an article entitled "Bouddhisme et Upanisad", and there he found the best possible collaborator in Lamotte. Readers of these two writings of Professor Lamotte could never fail to be impressed by his profound scholarship both in Bhagavadgita and Upanisads, for the former still remains one of the most important contributions to the text even after 80 years, and the tradition established in the latter, that is the comparative study of Buddhism and Hinduism, still continues to the present day. From these two writings, we realize that Professor Lamotte started his brilliant career as an Indologist, not as a Buddhologist as it is usually understood. This book makes these two texts available again. Text in French.

Worldchanging 101: Challenging the Myth of Powerlessness
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 32.83 $Why is it that while most of us can identify and explain problems challenging our communities, nations, and world, we so rarely act to address those problems? What keeps us paralyzed? David LaMotte suggests that the stories we tell ourselves and each other about how the world works are a big part of the answer. Stories matter. They guide our actions more powerfully than data because they place boundaries around what we believe to be possible. Unfortunately, some of our common stories are simply not true. Worldchanging 101 examines how large-scale change happens and how it doesn t, and explores our possible roles within that change. By breaking large transformations into more manageable components, LaMotte demystifies positive change-making, then guides us through questions to reveal specific pathways toward real and sustainable engagement with problems that concern us. In Worldchanging 101, we re-think the importance of heroes and everyday people, including ourselves.

The Fire of Darkness: What Burned Me Away Completely, I Became
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 2.45 $A unique collection of collages by Rashani Réa, accompanied by the poetry of Alfred K. LaMotte. Rarely has such a book as this been produced which radiates (you can almost feel it) the essence of the highest of spiritual ideals and ideas. Created this past summer—during eight of the twelve weeks when Kīlauea Volcano was erupting on the Big Island of Hawai`i—where Rashani has lived for the past twenty-seven years—Rashani’s images speak to the idea of Darkness and yet how that same darkness can lead to rebirth, or “the Bardo” as she refers to it. Something to be embraced, “without fear and with trust”—as Rilke writes in a poem on the same subject. And in the end amidst the devastating flow of lava and the rain of ash, Rashani’s collages, here, say to us that in the end the Darkness is all about Beauty. And beautiful this book is with the addition of complimentary poems by the poet Alfred K. LaMotte who lives on the U.S. mainland. With profound poems that are reminiscent of those of the Sufi poets Rumi, Hafiz and Kabir, the visual and mental collaborative “duet” that is blended between images and words creates a composite that is a kind of Creation Story. A “syzygy.” A mated pair of opposites. Yin and yang. Adding a third dimension taking us out of the darkness of those noir nights of volcanic cataclysm and into the light. Allowing us, the readers, to see the beauty in the fire. And to come away cleansed and yet cautioned to the power and majesty of Nature and our home here on the planet Earth. –Thomas Rain Crowe, author of "Drunk on the Wine of the Beloved: 100 Poems of Hafiz" (Shambhala Publications, 2001)

History of Indian Buddhism: From the Origins to the Saka Era (Publications De L*institut Orientaliste De Louvain, 36)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 298.73 $The History of Indian Buddhism is undoubtedly Lamotte's most brilliant contribution to the field of Buddhist exegesis. The work contains a vivid, vigorous and fully-detailed description of early Buddhism and its teachings, the material organization of the Community, the formation and further developments of Buddhist writings, the conciliar traditions, the evolution of Buddhist sculpture and architecture, the origins of the sects, the Buddhist dialects and the constitution of the legends, and sets them in the historical background in which buddhist doctrines originated and expanded in India and in neighbouring countries. Using material evidence provided by Indian epigraphy and archaeological remains on the one hand, and taking into account information supplied by Western (Latin and Greek) and Far Eastern (Tibetan and Chinese) sources on the other, Lamotte has succeeded in producing a lucid and basic book that is unanimously considered as a classic of contemporary Buddhist studies. After thirty years, the work has retained all its value, but, in order to meet the requirements of recent Buddhist scholarship, the book has been supplemented with an additional bibliography, an index of technical terms and revised geographical maps.

Flight to Arras
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 32.61 $2015 Reprint of 1942 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Illustrated by Bernard Lamotte. "Flight to Arras" is a memoir by French author Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Written in 1942, it recounts his role in the French Air Force as pilot of a reconnaissance plane during the Battle of France in 1940. The book condenses months of flights into a single terrifying mission over the town of Arras. Saint-Exupery was assigned to Reconnaissance Group II/33 flying the twin-engine Bloch MB.170. At the start of the war there were only fifty reconnaissance crews, of which twenty-three were in his unit. Within the first few days of the German invasion of France in May 1940, seventeen of the II/33 crews were sacrificed recklessly, he writes "like glasses of water thrown onto a forest fire". Saint-Exupéry survived the French defeat but refused to join the Royal Air Force over political differences with de Gaulle and in late 1940 went to New York where he accepted the National Book Award for "Wind, Sand and Stars". He remained in North America for two years, and then in the spring of 1943 rejoined his old unit in North Africa. In July 1944, "risking flesh to prove good faith", he failed to return from a reconnaissance mission over France.

Statt EUR 160,00. Gewicht: 1360 g - Gebunden/Gebundene Ausgabe - Sprachen: Deutsch, Alttürkisch

Suramgamasamadhisutra
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 2.91 $"This English rendering has been done by Ms. Boin-Webb with the same deftness, accuracy, and attention to detail seen in her translations of Lamotte’s L’Enseignement de Vimalakirti and his Histoire du bouddhisme indien, des origines à l’ére Saka. . . . In French this book was a gem of thoroughgoing and wholly admirable scholarship. It is no less so in its English setting." ―Journal of the American Oriental SocietyThe Suramgamasamadhisutra is an early Mahayana Buddhist scripture. Within a narrative framework provided by a dialogue between the Buddha and the bodhisattva Drdhamati, it airs central issues of Mahayana Buddhism by means of philosophical discussion, edifying anecdote, marvelous feat, and drama. At its core is a description of the seeming conversion of Mara, the embodiment of all malign tendencies that obstruct advancement, and the prediction that he too will become a Buddha.Samadhi (concentration) is understood to denote the altered mental states attainable through Buddhist meditation techniques, in particular that in which discursive thought is allayed and the mind is calm and capable of sustained awareness of a single object. The present volume comprises the first full English translation of Kumarajiva’s Chinese translation of the Suramgamasamadhisutra, with an extensive explanatory introduction and annotations. Etienne Lamotte’s French version appeared in 1965 and now Sara Boin-Webb’s English rendering of this work gives the English-speaking world access both to an important Buddhist scripture and a classic work of Buddhist studies scholarship.

Abhidharmakosabhasyam (4 vols.)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 250.00 $Under the influence of his teacher, Louis de la Valle Poussin, Prof. Lamotte published several works in French, which were primarily editions, translations and commentaries on Tibetan and Chinese Buddhist texts. The theories and concepts contained in this particular work are closely related to those of the Abhidharmakosa, and as such it makes a valuable companion to that larger work. Here Prof. Pruden has provided a masterful English translation of Prof. Lamotte's work, and has added a brief biography of Prof. Lamotte and his scholarly accomplishments to familiarize the reader with this great scholar of Buddhism.
