Toute petite, Marjane voulait être prophète. Elle se disait qu'elle pourrait ainsi soigner le mal de genoux de sa grand-mère. En 1979, l'année de ses dix ans et de la révolution iranienne, elle a un peu oublié Dieu. Elle s'est mise à manifester dans le jardin de ses parents en criant "à bas le roi !".
