The Lubomirski Dürers, once an integral part of the Ossolinski National Institute, were among the most treasured artifacts in Poland before the Second World War. Yet like the splendid art collections of the Czartoryskis in Krakow and Goluchow, and Potockis in Lancut, the Museum of the Lubomirski Princes suffered tremendous losses due to theft, confiscation, coercive transfer and looting by the Germans and Soviets. This is the tragic and still unresolved story of the dispersed collection of these Dürer drawings.
