Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 68.65 $This publieation summarizes an initial unpublished report (1971) on diagnostie eriteria in dry bones. The relevant study was made in 22 medieal museums in Europe, England and Seotland between 1966 and 1969. About 670 dry bones were reeorded by over 2000 photographs. Emphasis is plaeed on ehanges for whieh diagnostie eriteria are proposed rather than on those for whieh diagnostie problems remain. The ehanges studied were maeroseopieal not mieroseopieal. This is not areport on the pathological ehanges in dry bones in medieal museums, but a statement on "Diagnostic eriteria of syphilis in dry bones" and of eertain other prevalent ehanges, and their eauses, whieh are needed for differential diagnosis. 'Syphilis' as used here usually refers equally to the 'treponematoses' whieh inc1udes yaws and treponarid. It is intended as a eomprehensive guide for archaeologists and anthro- pologists, and as an instrument of preeision for osteo-arehaeologists. It is not a manual of pathology, although pathologists may be interested in this revival of the dying skill of diagnosis of disease in dry bones. All reeords, written, photo graphie and radiographie, together with the initial 120,000 word report, have been deposited in the Department of Morbid Anatomy, Institute of Orthopaedies, London, where they will be available for study. Abrief introduetion to this study has been published (Haekett, 1975). I would like especially to thank the President of the Heidelberger Akade- mie der Wissenschaften, and Doktor H. Götze of Springer-Verlag, Heidelberg, for the publieation of this monograph.

Applied Anatomy (Classic Reprint)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 28.02 $Excerpt from Applied Anatomy: Designed for the Use of Osteopathic Students and Practitioners as an Aid in the Anatomical Explanation of Disease From an Osteopathic ViewpointRealizing the close relation existing between anatomy and osteo pathic therapeutics, that the science is built on anatomical and physio logical knowledge, I in 1901 outlined a course in a subject that I chose to call, Applied Anatomy. This book is the outgrowth of that attempt to anatomically explain the signs, cause and treatment of disease. The object of this work is to place osteopathy on a scientific basis by offering anatomical and physiological proof that our etiology of dis ease is correct; to demonstrate that disturbance of function is, as a rule, due to structural changes, and to point out the significance of anatomical changes; and to furnish the practitioner a ready reference for the explain ing of lesions and their effects. Anatomical details have been avoided unless of importance in the explanation of the subject.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Planning and Reduction Technique in Fracture Surgery
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 371.38 $During the past 30 years, the Study Group for the Problems of Osteosyn thesis (AO) has made decisive contributions to the development of osteo synthesis as a surgical method. Through close cooperation among special ists in the fields of orthopedic and general surgery, basis research, metallurgy, and technical engineering, with consistently thorough follow up, it was possible to establish a solid scientific background for osteosyn thesis and to standardize this operative method, not only for the more ob vious applications in fracture treatment, but also in selective orthopedics where hardly any problems relating to bone, such as those with osteoto mies can be solved without surgical stabilization. Besides the objective aim, the AO was additionally stimulated by a spirit of open-minded friendship; each member of the group was recruited according to his pro fessional background and position, his skills, and his talent for improvisa tion. Against this backdrop without even mentioning the schooling program well known throughout the world I should like to add some personal and general comments. This book is written for clinicians, instructing them how to perform osteo synthesis with special reference to plating in all its varieties and in strict accordance with the biomechanical and biological aspects and facts. From this point of view, the chapter on preoperative planning merits par ticular emphasis. Not only is it conductive to optimal surgery, it will also contribute to self-education and may found a school.
