Panzer Vor! 6
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 2.13 $A successful tank design involves an optimal balance of mobility, protection and firepower, and this volume summarises how German tank firepower and protection levels evolved over the course of World War II. In response to better enemy vehicles, initially lightweight designs grew into a formidable array of heavy tanks, as well as solutions such as additional armour plates and Schurzen side skirts. Panzer Vor! 6 focuses specifically on this"gun versus armour" equation, and this is reflected in the text and captions. A fascinating vista of photos show vehicles in action and the range of vehicles is extraordinary; it includes the Panzer I, Panzer II, Panzer III, StuG III, Panzer IV, Panther and Tiger I. There are also artillery pieces (e.g. Hummel, Wespe) and a number of halftracks featured within the covers. Perhaps most useful of all to readers will be the highly detailed captions that accompany each picture. They highlight features of production variants and units. Featured in the book are 16 colour plates by the accomplished illustrator Laurent Lecocq, and these offer sample camouflage schemes and markings. As a worthy continuation of the five previous volumes in the Panzer Vor! series, this well-researched book is bound to enthuse modellers and military buffs alike.

Panzer Leader (War and Warriors Series)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 28.84 $Germany's opening run of victory in World War II was only made possible by the panzer forces that Heinz Guderian (1888-1954), the father of modern tank warfare, had created and trained, and by his audacious leading of those forces from 1939-1941. Guderian's breakthrough at Sedan and lightning drive to the Channel coast virtually decided the Battle of France. The drive he led into the East came close to producing the complete collapse of Russia's armies, but at the end of 1941 Guderian was dismissed for taking a timely step back instead of pandering to Hitler's illusions. He was recalled to service only when Germany's situation had become desperate, and was eventually made Chief of the General Staff when it had become hopeless.

Panzer Killers
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 26.25 $What was it like to confront the German panzer armies as an anti-tank gunner on the Eastern Front during the Second World War? How could you hope overcome of one of the best-equipped, well-trained and tenacious armored forces of the time? And how did the Red Army’s tactics and skills develop over the course of the war in order to counter the threat posed by the elite troops of the Wehrmacht? The vivid personal narratives of Red Army anti-tank men selected for this book give a fascinating insight into these questions – and into the first-hand experience of anti-tank warfare seventy years ago. Their testimony reveals how lethal, rapid, small-scale actions - gun against tank – were fought, and it shows how such isolated actions determined the outcome of the massive offensives and counter-offensives that characterized the struggle on the Eastern Front. Panzer Killers is a valuable addition to the series of graphic eyewitness accounts of every aspect of the Red Army’s war on the Eastern Front published by Pen & Sword.

Panzer IV on the Battlefield: World War Two Photobook Series, Volume 10 [first edition]
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 35.00 $Often referred to as a workhorse the PzKpfw IV is certainly not a glamorous beast but from North Africa to the Eastern front it was a ubiquitous fixture on the various battlefields of WWII. Using archive and original photographs to lay down a visual time line for this Panzer's development, the book takes a historical overview of this strategically important tank. Description and definition of all the different Ausfs are included both within the introduction and captions. It applies recent findings to the analysis and commentary of the photographs. These include the authors own research into unit specific stowage and factory production differences, which feature for the first time within the context of a monograph looking at the vehicles overall evolution. Information that should be invaluable to both historians and modelers.
