Restricted Parameter Space Estimation Problems
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 20.41 $This monograph is addressed to anyone interested in the subject of restrict- parameter-space estimation, and in particular to those who want to learn, or bring their knowledge up to date, about (in)admissibility and minimaxity problems for such parameter spaces. The coverage starts in the early 1950s when the subject of inference for - stricted parameter spaces began to be studied and ends around the middle of 2004. It presents known, and also some new, results on (in)admissibility and minimaxity for nonsequential point estimation problems in restricted ?ni- dimensional parameter spaces. Relationships between various results are d- cussed and open problems are pointed out. Few complete proofs are given, but outlines of proofs are often supplied. The reader is always referred to the published papers and often results are clari?ed by presenting examples of the kind of problems an author solves, or of problems that cannot be solved by a particular result. The monograph does not touch on the subject of testing hypotheses in - stricted parameter spaces. The latest books on that subject are by Robertson, Wright and Dykstra (1988) and Akkerboom (1990), but many new results in that area have been obtained since. The monograph does have a chapter in which questions about the existence of maximum likelihood estimators are discussed. Some of their properties are also given there as well as some algorithms for computing them. Most of these results cannot be found in the Robertson, Wright, Dykstra book.

Restricted Images: Made with the Warlpiri of Central Australia
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 55.00 $Restricted Images: Made with the Warlpiri of Central Australia collects works made at the Warlukurlangu art center in Australia with local Warlpiri artists. In institutions across Australia and Europe, access to archives of colonial-era anthropological artefacts is now often restricted to avoid showing imagery that infringes on Aboriginal cultural beliefs; often only the descendants of those depicted can decide who is allowed to access them. Attitudes toward these images have changed since they were celebrated as anthropological photography by colonialists in the late 1800s, and there is now much institutional uncertainty about how to approach the question of representation. In response, British artist Patrick Waterhouse (born 1981) developed a collaborative venture to symbolically return to these communities agency over their own images. After several years photographing them, he made prints and then invited the Warlpiri to paint the surfaces of the images using the traditional technique of dot painting and thus enact their own restrictions upon them.

Investigating Restricted Knowledge in Lithic Craft Traditions among the Pre-contact Coast Salish of the Pacific Northwest Coast of North America
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 102.07 $Understanding the impacts of the emergence of hereditary social inequality in human societies is one of the fundamental questions in archaeology. This book is one case study examining the transitions in craft apprenticeship of formed lithic tools among the precontact Coast Salish of the Pacific Northwest Coast as hereditary social inequality emerged. According to cultural transmission theory, the emergence of large plank house villages and hereditary social inequality would result in the restriction of craft knowledge, and was predicted to reduce the stylistic and fine scale metric variation of formed lithic tools. High resolution metric and stylistic analyses were performed, controlling for material quality, tool retouch and sample size effects. Stylistic variation in lithics and assemblage heterogeneity suggests that lithic craft knowledge became increasingly restricted through time, with the emergence of large sedentary populations.
