The Great Christian Jurists series comprises a library of national volumes of detailed biographies of leading jurists, judges and practitioners, assessing the impact of their Christian faith on the professional output of the individuals studied. Little has previously been written about the faith of the great judges who framed and developed the English common law over centuries, but this unique volume explores how their beliefs were reflected in their judicial functions. This comparative study, embracing ten centuries of English law, draws some remarkable conclusions as to how Christianity shaped the views of lawyers and judges. Adopting a long historical perspective, this volume also explores the lives of judges whose practice in or conception of law helped to shape the Church, its law or the articulation of its doctrine.

The study examines the five prayers known as Jeremiahs confessions (Jer 11,18-12,6; 15,10-21; 17,14-18; 18,18-23; 20,7-18) in their immediate and wider context. Are they older or younger than the texts surrounding them? What is their significance in the Book of Jeremiah? The analysis aims to demonstrate how the form of the prophets apparently personal prayer is used to highlight the theological problem of unjust suffering. This process is carried out in a number of steps which consider not only Jer 11-20, but also Jer 1-20; 1-45, and finally 1-51.

Die Studie dient als Momentaufnahme der Mehrsprachigkeit an deutschen Schulen. Sie ermöglicht einen Einblick in die Einstellungen und Wünsche der Lehrkräfte sowie die Handlungsräume und Ressourcen der Schulen im Umgang mit sprachlich heterogenen Lern(er)gruppen. Die Ergebnisse führen vor Augen, dass Mehrsprachigkeit schon lange schulischer Alltag und Unterrichtsrealität ist. Deshalb sind dort die Potenziale von Kindern und Jugendlichen mit nicht-deutscher Erstsprache zu entwickeln und die Sprachfähigkeiten deutscherstsprachiger Lern(er)gruppen zu fördern.

This is the story of Ma Kiley, a Texas-born railroad telegraph operator who worked as a "boomer" in the American West, Mexico, and Canada in the early 1900s. Although autobiographical writings by women telegraph operators are rare, Ma Kiley left a richly detailed and moving personal account of her life and work in "The Bug and I," first published by Railroad Magazine in 1950. This book also includes an introduction which provides background on telegraphy, a little known area of women's work. It attempts to fill in the "missing history" of women in telegraphy - how women gained access to the field of telegraphy, how they were viewed by their male co-workers, and how women operators struggled to establish their own identities.

When Bertensson and Leyda's 1956 biography appeared, it lifted the veil of secrecy from several areas of Rachmaninoff's life, especially concerning the genesis of his compositions and how their critical reception affected him.The authors consulted many of Rachmaninoff's associates.
