Hudson was written in the United States by Kisaburo Konoshima (1893-1984) and published in Japan by Hakuyo Shoin under the same title in 1970. The paper is 1950s hand-made Renage près Rives, which was found at the Parkminster Carthusian monastery's old print-shop, watermark visible. Covers are hand-made teal paper by the Larroque mill, tied with red ribbon. Capitals are printed in red, regular text is black, done with Fournier type. The author was inspired to this work by the poems of Paul Valéry who was commissioned to illustrate with words the bookseller René Hilsum's ornamental capitals. Red Lights by Mokichi Saito (1882-1953), who was a major Japanese tankaist, continued the trend in bringing new life to tanka. Sbakko, translated as Red Lights, appeared in 1913.
