Tribology
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 91.21 $In 1975 we and four of our former colleagues wrote the textbook Principles of Tribology. That book was very successful both in the United Kingdom and overseas and it is still being sold today. However, 13 years after the first publication of the book, the publishers suggested that we should consider revising the text, to include the more important developments which had taken place in the meantime. Although we have remained active in tribological research, it was only when we started work on this revision that we realised that the developments which have taken place have been so extensive that they could not be accommodated simply by revision of our existing text. As a result, although we have reused some of our original material, the present book has resulted from a complete reappraisal of our ideas on the necessary content of a modern introductory textbook on tribology. As the title of the book implies, it has been our intention to write a book which will provide a thorough grounding in the principles of our subject for undergraduates and new research workers and will also act as a basic reference book for practising designers. In the areas of friction and wear, although there has been a great deal of high-quality research on the underlying physical and mechanical processes, there are no current, or indeed foreseeable, models which will allow quantitative predictions of friction coefficients or wear rates from basic physical, chemical and mechanical properties.

Tribology in Electrical Environments (Tribology and Interface Engineering)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 156.62 $This book summarises work done and experience gained over the past three decades in the area of tribology in electrical environments. It takes a close look at behaviour and response characteristics of rolling-element, and hydrodynamic journal & thrust bearings working under the influence of electrical current. Detailed analysis plugs the existing knowledge gaps in the area of tribology in electrical environments. This is because the genesis of intermolecular forces during tribological interaction involves electrostatic attraction or repulsion that creates electro-dynamic, magnetic and exchange forces between atoms. Therefore all tribological phenomena occurring in any interacting system is electrical in nature.Keep your collection up-to date with the latest volume from Elsevier's Tribology and Interface Engineering Book SeriesIncludes ‘real life' case studies

Tribology: Engineering Applications
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 68.11 $Tribology is basically defined as the study of friction, wear, lubrication, and the design of bearings; the science of interacting surfaces in relative motion. The objective of compiling this book was to present modern concepts, new discoveries and innovative ideas in the area of surface engineering, primarily for technical operations, and also in the area of production engineering and to stress some difficulties connected with the usage of several surface procedures in modern manufacturing of various purpose machine parts. This book is an effort to introduce science into the study of surface treatment procedures. Tribology presents a good approach for explaining abrasive machining and coating procedures and provides the ability to predict some of the outputs of the procedures. The study of friction, forces and energy investigates the significance of several factors which govern the stresses and deformations of abrasion. The impacts of grain shape, extent of penetration and lubrication on the procedures are investigated. The tribology of nanostructured surfaces includes several basic and scientific topics. Most importantly, it has immense operations in industries. It is a powerful device to check friction, adhesion and wetting of surfaces by changing their geometric textures and substance compositions at the nanoscale, and hence, to control the tribological performance of the engineering surfaces.

Tribology: A Simple Guide To The Study of Friction
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 38.00 $This book addresses the types of seals and bearings that are commonly found in most rotating and moving machinery, including how they are designed, how they work and what can be done to ensure that they continue maintain proper lubrication and successful operation. Tribology is the scientific and engineering study of friction, and in common practice; it most often involves the control and reduction of friction. This is particularly critical to the successful and continued operation of moving parts. The author discusses the critical lubrication issues dealt with in gears and gear boxes, focusing on specific types of mechanical seals, including compression seals, hydrodynamic seals, hydrostatic seals, and mechanical face seals. Dr. Watterson also introduces the reader to the major types of bearings, including roller bearings, ball bearings and various types of sealed bearing systems, and their maintenance and lubrication requirements.

Tribology and Mechanics of Magnetic Storage Devices
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 30.25 $Since January 1990, when the first edition ofthis first-of-a-kind book appeared, there has been much experimental and theoretical progress in the multi disciplinary subject of tribology and mechanics of magnetic storage devices. The subject has matured into a rigorous discipline, and many university tribology and mechanics courses now routinely contain material on magnetic storage devices. The major growth in the subject has been on the micro- and nanoscale aspects of tribology and mechanics. Today, most large magnetic storage industries use atomic force microscopes to image the magnetic storage components. Many companies use variations of AFMs such as friction force microscopes (FFMs) for frictional studies. These instruments have also been used for studying scratch, wear, and indentation. These studies are valuable in the fundamental understanding of interfacial phenomena. In the second edition, I have added a new chapter, Chapter 11, on micro and nanoscale aspects of tribology and mechanics of magnetic storage compo nents. This chapter presents the state of the art of the micro/nanotribology and micro/nanomechanics of magnetic storage components. In addition, typographical errors in Chapters 1 to 10 and the appendixes have been corrected. These additions update this book and make it more valuable to researchers of the subject. I am grateful to many colleagues and particularly to my students, whose work is reported in Chapter 11. I thank my wife, Sudha, who has been forbearing during the progress of the research reported in this chapter.
