Von Persönlichkeit und Werk Kirchners tief beeindruckt, erwarb der Besitzer des Winterthurer Handelshauses Gebrüder Volkart eine grössere Anzahl von Holzschnitten, und ein Briefwechsel nahm seinen Anfang, der bis zu Kirchners Tod anhielt.Reinhart, der mit offenem Geist auf die Kunst Kirchners reagierte und sich für ihn einsetzte, hatte vom Künstler selbst abgezogene, ausserordentlich seltene Druckgrafik erworben.
