The conversation addresses relationships between gender and capitalism, as well as resistance, struggles and strategies for social change. Spanning over several decades, these are subjects in which Mohanty is deeply invested, both as an academic and as an activist. The book also includes a newly written preface by Mohanty, where she reacts to the interview with her current thoughts. Excerpt from the book: "Can we actually talk about anticapitalist struggle without understanding the importance of race, gender, colonial legacies in that struggle? To me that is a really crucial question. One way to think about this question is, in the world we live in now, how does the colonial traffic in the imperial? It seems to me that imperialism, militarism and globalization — corporate, capitalist, neoliberal globalization — work hand in hand. We need to understand how those three systems, as modes of operation and practices, interconnect with and sustain each other and how at the heart of some of those practices are gendered, racialized, heteronormative sexual politics and ideologies" (Mohanty, p.15-16). Chandra Talpade Mohanty is Distinguished Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Dean’s Professor of the Humanities at Syracuse University in New York. She is the author of the essay Under Western Eyes: Feminist Scholarship and Colonial Discourses (boundary 2, 1986). She has also written and edited several books, including Feminism Without Borders: Decolonizing Theory, Practicing Solidarity (Duke University Press, 2003); Feminism and War: Confronting U.S. Imperialism, co-edited with Robin Riley and Minnie Bruce Pratt (Zed Press, 2008); and Feminist Freedom Warriors: Genealogies, Justice, Politics, and Hope, co-edited with Linda E. Carty (Haymarket Books, 2018). Jesper Nordahl is an artist who lives and works in Stockholm. His work has been shown internationally, including exhibitions at Shedhalle, Zurich; Index, Stockholm; Artists Space, New York; Colombo Art Biennale, Colombo; Grazer Kunstverein, Graz; GIBCA, Gothenburg; Galerija Umjetnina, Museum of Fine Arts, Split. ‘The Struggles of Brown, Jones and Robinson’ is a satirical tale from Victorian author Anthony Trollope about a failing haberdashery firm. One of the partners, Mr Robinson, is our narrator. We follow the story as he spends beyond the company’s means on advertising, leading the company into ruin. There is romance and comedy along the way in this sardonic tale, which was a departure from Trollope’s usual writing style.Anthony Trollope (1815 – 1882) was a Victorian writer and author of 47 novels. He also wrote an autobiography, short stories and plays, travel articles, reviews and lectures. A prolific writer, he made no secret of the fact that money was his motivation for writing – an admission which raised eyebrows among his literary contemporaries at the time. The amount of works Trollope authored are testament to his belief in hard work. His first successful novel was The Warden followed by its sequel, Barchester Towers. The Chronicles of Barsetshire are perhaps his most well-known series of novels, though many of his works have been adapted for TV and radio, starring many familiar faces such as Alan Rickman, David Tennant, Bill Nighy and Tom Hollander. Alongside his literary career, Trollope also worked for some time for the Post Office and is credited with the introduction of the iconic post box to Britain. A memorial to Anthony Trollope was unveiled in Poets’ Corner in Westminster Abbey in 1993.

Struggle Stories

A few years ago, I came into contact with the concept high sensitivity and HSP (high sensitive person). I read books, websites, stories from other highly sensitive persons and did tests. It was very clear to me that I was a highly sensitive person. It didn t change my reality, but it gave me explanations for why I always felt different, why I didn t seem to be able to function like others. Most of the poems in this book were written before I knew the concept of high sensitivity. They are about searching, about not fitting in, about being different, but also about having an enormously strong drive to create, to be creative, and that it can be a way to exist. Many of the poems are dark, some really dark, but I believe that there are other highly sensitive persons who have felt and thought similarly. Maybe my poems can be helpful by showing that you are not alone in this. That the darkness can exist with acceptance instead of being fought and that it is possible to find light even where and when it is darkest. We cannot ignore the darkness we cannot pretend that it does not exist. It exists. It is part of us and therefore has the right to exist. Expressing the darkness through writing and reading or other creativity can be a way to get it out and thus give it an opportunity to sink away and release its grip on you. You may even be able to direct that energy into something constructive instead of destructive. The poems can convey that this is our reality and it s ok. It may still be hard and difficult but you are not wrong as a human being. You are ok as a human being and this is part of what we go through as highly sensitive persons. HSP - Highly sensitive people have a nervous system that is more sensitive than the average person. They notice many subtle details in their environment and process them deep within themselves. High sensitivity is an innate personality trait found in 15-20% of the global population.

Safar Safar was born in Midyat, Turkey in 1921and died in New Jersey, USA in 2000. He is the son of Abdel-Aziz Safar and the grandson of the legendary Syriac leader, Hanna Safar (who held the title of Pasha). Safar Safar spent the last years of his life documenting the historical stories told to him by his father in the oral tradition. That history had become etched into the author s mind. He later realized that the best way to preserve the family s cultural and historical background was to write it all down. This publication is derived from those writings, which include several manuscripts that Safar Safar created.His work not only preserves his family s history as he intended it also offers a better understanding of what life was like in Tur Abdin and gives the reader detailed historical context that relates to Syriac speaking people in general.
