Reflexive Mediation - Vibeke Vindeløv - Bog
Sælger: Saxo.com Pris: 439.95 dkr (+29.95 dkr)How does mediators keep their enthusiasm and prevent their work from becoming dull and just a job like any other job? How do they avoid falling into the trap of doing exactly the same as those they want to provide an alternative to? How do they maintain the qualities of mediation? The author of this book believes it is time for mediators to look further than merely discussing skills, techniques and models, and to take up the personal challenge and responsibility of being conscious of the deeper values and beliefs that drive them, and then constantly, during and after each mediation, to evaluate what they did and how they did it. Just as they, in mediation, believe that the ultimate responsibility for reaching a satisfactory outcome to a conflict belongs to the parties, so the mediators must be willing to take the responsibility for preserving mediation as a unique process, as it was when they started. Even though, naturally, mediation cannot save the world , an approach to conflicts in which one recognises the needs both of the individual and of society and the essential connection between them - in both major and minor conflicts - is a necessary development. The reflexive model thereby takes a longer view and has a sustainable perspective. Table of Contents Foreword Chapter 1. Conflict mediation with a reflexive approach an introduction Chapter 2. The Ethical Algorithm - Michael Kearns - Bog
Sælger: Saxo.com Pris: 199.95 dkr (+29.95 dkr)Over the course of a generation, algorithms have gone from mathematical abstractions to powerful mediators of daily life. In evolving from static computer programs hand-coded by engineers to the products of machine learning, these technologies have made our lives more efficient, more entertaining, and, sometimes, better informed. At the same time, complex algorithms are increasingly crushing the basic rights of individual citizens. Allegedly anonymized datasets and statistical models routinely leak our most sensitive personal information; applications for everything from loans to college reflect racial and gender bias. Meanwhile, users manipulate algorithms to "game" search engines, spam filters, online reviewing services and navigation apps. Understanding and improving the science behind the algorithms that run our lives is quickly becoming one of the most pressing issues of this century. Traditional solutions, such as laws, regulations and watchdog groups, have proven woefully inadequate, at best. Derived from the cutting-edge of scientific research, The Ethical Algorithm offers a new approach: a set of principled solutions based on the emerging and exciting science of socially aware algorithm design. Weaving together the science behind algorithm design with stories of citizens, lawyers, scientists, and activists experiencing the trial-and-error of research in real-time, Michael Kearns and Aaron Roth present a strikingly original way forward, showing how we can begin to work together to protect people from the unintended impacts of algorithms--and, sometimes, protect the science that could save us from ourselves.

Divine Craftsmanship - Jean Hani - Bog
Sælger: Saxo.com Pris: 244.95 dkr (+29.95 dkr)In what way can human beings attain that Harmony whereby they become mediators between Heaven and Earth? In the mysterious language of symbols we can rediscover the sense of vocation that reflects Divine Activity. For God is, in reality, the sole Artisan. All the traditional crafts strive to imitate within their limitations the work of God, Who unceasingly creates and maintains the world. And in the end it is this that constitutes the sole foundation of the dignity of work. That is why this book seeks to bring us to an interior knowledge of God as Divine Artisan. Chapters include: The Divine Scribe--Christ the Physician--The Warrior God-- The Divine Potter--God the Weaver--God the Architect and Mason--The 'Son of the Carpenter'--Pastor et Nauta-- God the Fisherman and God the Hunter--The Celestial Gardener--The Master of the Harvest--The Master of the Vineyard--The Spirituality of Work and the Body Social. "Through his research into hidden or lost meanings, Jean Hani has revealed and restored to our attention the most 'initiatic' dimensions of the Christian religion." Jean Borella, author of The Secret of the Christian Way, and The Crisis of Religious Symbolism (forthcoming from Angelico Press) Jean Hani (1917-2012), former professor emeritus at the University of Amiens, was the founder of the Centre de Recherche sur l'Antiquite Classique and a frequent contributor to the journal Connaissance des Religions. After writing his PhD thesis on the influence of Egyptian thought upon Plutarch, he produced annotated translations of the latter's writings for the well-known Collection Bude. Later he became known for his mastery of traditional hermeneutics and exegesis, and his broad knowledge in the field of comparative religion. Hani's writing is sensitive to the predicament of those moderns who seek a firm foundation in traditional Christian values, while striving also to integrate into that foundation whatever of value can be salvaged from the contemporary world. His findings were presented in four important works now available from Angelico Press in translation: the present volume, along with The Symbolism of the Christian Temple, The Divine Liturgy (Insights into its Mystery), and The Black Virgin (A Marian Mystery).

Penal Theories And Institutions - Michel Foucault - Bog
Sælger: Saxo.com Pris: 229.95 dkr (+29.95 dkr)The thirteenth and final English volume of Michel Foucault's Lectures at the Coll ge de France "What characterizes the act of justice is not resort to a court and to judges; it is not the intervention of magistrates (even if they had to be simple mediators or arbitrators). What characterizes the juridical act, the process or the procedure in the broad sense, is the regulated development of a dispute. And the intervention of judges, their opinion or decision, is only an episode in this development. What defines the juridical order is the way in which one confronts one another, the way in which one struggles. The rule and the struggle, the rule in the struggle, this is the juridical." --Michel Foucault The great French philosopher Michel Foucault delivered a series of lectures at the Coll ge de France from November 1971 to March 1972, entitled Penal Theories and Institutions . Within them, he presented for the first time his approach to the question of power, one that would become the focus of his research up to the writing of Discipline and Punish and beyond. His analysis begins with a detailed account of Richelieu's repression of the Nu-pieds Revolt (1639-1640) and moves on to show how the apparatus of power developed by the monarchy on this occasion broke with the system of juridical and judicial institutions of the Middle Ages, widening into a "judicial State apparatus"--a "repressive system," whose function was focused on the confinement of those who challenged its order. Here, Foucault systematizes his approach to a history of truth which is at the heart of his notion of "knowledge-power," based on the study of "juridico-political matrices" that he had begun in the previous year's Lectures on the Will to Know. Available for the first time in English, these lectures are an essential milestone in the development of Foucault's influential theory of justice and penal law.

Mediation - Martin Lavesen - Bog

Giordano Bruno: Cause, Principle And Unity - Giordano Bruno - Bog
Sælger: Saxo.com Pris: 309.95 dkr (+29.95 dkr)Giordano Bruno's notorious public death in 1600, at the hands of the Inquisition in Rome, marked the transition from Renaissance philosophy to the Scientific Revolution of the seventeenth century. In his philosophical works he addressed such delicate issues as the role of Christ as mediator and the distinction, in human beings, between soul and matter. This volume presents new translations of Cause, Principle and Unity, in which he challenges Aristotelian accounts of causality and spells out the implications of Copernicanism for a new theory of an infinite universe, and of two essays on magic, On Magic and A General Account of Bonding, in which he interprets earlier theories about magical events in the light of the unusual powers of natural phenomena.

Sense And Stigma In The Gospels - Louise J. Lawrence - Bog
Sælger: Saxo.com Pris: 254.95 dkr (+29.95 dkr)The senses are used within New Testament texts as instruments of knowledge and power and thus constitute important mediators of cultural knowledge and experience. Likewise, those instances where sensory faculty is perceived to be 'disabled' in some way also become key sites for ideological commentary and critique. However, often biblical scholarship, itself 'disabled' by eye-centric and textocentric 'norms', has read sensory-disabled characters as nothing more than inert sites of healing; their agency, including their alternative sensory modes of communication and resistance to oppression, remain largely unaddressed. In response, Louise J. Lawrence seeks to initiate a variety of interdisciplinary dialogues with disability studies and sensory anthropology in a quest to refigure characters with sensory disabilities featured in the gospels and provide alternative interpretations of their conditions and social interactions. In each instance the identity of those stigmatised as 'other' (according to particular physiological, social and cultural 'norms') are recovered by exploring ethnographic accounts which document the stories of those experiencing similar rejection on account of perceived sensory 'difference' in diverse cross-cultural settings. Through this process these 'disabled' characters are recast as individuals capable of employing certain strategies which destabilize the stigma imposed upon them and tactical performers who can subversively achieve their social goals.

n/a Hello, Robot. - Ukendt Forfatter - Bog
Sælger: Saxo.com Pris: 584.95 dkr (+29.95 dkr)Hello, Robot. Design between Human and Machine investigates how robotics is increasingly becoming part of our everyday lives. The exhibition shows that design in its traditional function as a mediator is indispensable if robots are to become a visible reality and not just remain hidden in washing machines, cars and cash machines. The catalogue points out where we already encounter these intelligent machines and where we may come across them in the near future: in the industry, in the military and in everyday settings; at nurseries and retirement homes; in our bodies and in the cloud; when shopping and having sex; in video games and, of course, in film and literature. In a series of in-depth essays and interviews, experts such as science-fiction author Bruce Sterling or the design duo Dunne & Raby explore the question of how we deal with an environment that is rapidly becoming more digital, smarter and more autonomous. They highlight our often ambivalent relationship to new technologies and discuss the opportunities and challenges that present themselves to us as individuals and as a society in this context. In this regard, Hello, Robot. broadens the scope of the discussion to include the ethical and political questions with which we are faced today in the light of technological advances in robotics, while confronting us with the contradictions that are often found in the answers to these questions. Authors and interviewees: Bruce Sterling, Fiona Raby, Anthony Dunne, Gesche Joost, Carlo Ratti, Amelie Klein and others.

The Cross And The Prodigal - Luke 15 Through The Eyes Of Middle Eastern Peasants - Kenneth E. Bailey - Bog
Sælger: Saxo.com Pris: 249.95 dkr (+29.95 dkr)Preaching Magazine Year's Best Book for Preachers Where is the cross in the parable of the prodigal son? For centuries, Muslims have called attention to the father's forgiveness in this parable in order to question the need for a Mediator between humanity and God. In The Cross and the Prodigal, Kenneth E. Bailey--New Testament scholar and long-time missionary to the Middle East--undertakes to answer this question. Drawing on his extensive knowledge of both the New Testament and Middle Eastern culture, Bailey presents an interpretation of this parable from a Middle Eastern perspective and, in doing so, powerfully demonstrates its essentially Christian message. Here Bailey highlights the underlying tensions between law and love, servanthood and sonship, honor and forgiveness that grant this story such timeless spiritual and theological power.
