Biochemistry of Lipids, Lipoproteins and Membranes, 5/e, Hb "n E W"
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 104.42 $Research on the biochemistry and molecular biology of lipids and lipoproteins has experienced remarkable growth in the past 20 years, particularly with the realization that many different classes of lipids play fundamental roles in diseases such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. The 5th edition of this book has been written with two major objectives. The first objective is to provide students and teachers with an advanced up-to-date textbook covering the major areas of current interest in the lipid field. The chapters are written for students and researchers familiar with the general concepts of lipid metabolism but who wish to expand their knowledge in this area. The second objective is to provide a text for scientists who are about to enter the field of lipids, lipoproteins and membranes and who wish to learn more about this area of research. All of the chapters have been extensively updated since the 4th edition appeared in 2002.Represents a bridge between the superficial coverage of the lipid field found in basic biochemistry text books and the highly specialized material contained in scientific review articles and monographsAllows scientists to become familiar with recent developments related to their own research interests, and will help clinical researchers and medical students keep abreast of developments in basic science that are important for subsequent clinical advancesServes as a general reference book for scientists studying lipids, lipoproteins and membranes and as an advanced and up-to-date textbook for teachers and students who are familiar with the basic concepts of lipid biochemistry

Biochemistry of Exercise and Training
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 44.31 $Sports Science is a rapidly expanding area, with student numbers on University courses increasing faster than for many other academic subjects. While there are a large number of suitable texts on exercise physiology, there has of yet been no such text for the area of exercise biochemistry. Biochemistry is also an area that students taking these courses usually have the greatest difficulty in understanding. The Biochemistry of exercise and training provides a broadly based introduction to those aspects of biochemistry relevant to exercise science. For students of biochemistry, physiology, and sports science, the book will enable them to develop a solid understanding of the fundamentals of biochemistry. Throughout, the focus is on physiological chemistry, dealing with those biochemical processes that determine the metabolic response to exercise, and the way in which these responses are influenced by training. The authors have taken account of the rapid advances being made in the field of physiological chemistry, and by providing the reader with a broad understanding of the fundamental concepts, they should then be able to integrate these future developments with their existing knowledge of the area.

Biochemistry of Sulfur
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 272.99 $There can be few elements with a biochemistry as coherent as that of sulfur. This important element is crucial to myriad aspects of metabo lism, catalysis, and structure. The plurality of functions in which sulfur is involved derives squarely from the numerous oxidation states in which it may exist, some having great stability, some being capable of ready redox interconversions, and yet others having great instability. As a result, the flux of sulfur from the geosphere through the various kingdoms of life leaves few biochemical processes unaffected. Although there are large gaps in the fabric of our basic knowledge of sulfur biochemistry, it is sufficiently framed to allow a unified and organized story, a story which many of the best-known names in bio chemistry have helped to write. It has been both a task and a privilege to try and summarize this story, one that is enormous, complex, fast moving, still developing and, above all, exciting. I suppose that no mo nographer of such a vast subject could be satisfied with his efforts. It is unfortunately probable that in attempting this task I have made as many errors as a Stilton cheese has blue streaks, and as many omissions as a Swiss cheese has holes. Perfection is not to be achieved in a monograph. Inasmuch as I have succeeded, the credit belongs to those whose efforts gave us the knowledge we have. Where I have failed, the fault is only mine.

Biochemistry (o) (s)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 29.81 $As stated in the preface to the first edition, this book is intended to be a review and not a comprehensive textbook of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The book covers only the highlights from the much more detailed knowledge that is usually found in textbooks and we recommend that the reader turn to several excellent texts for more detailed reference. The book is intended to help those who are studying for National Medical Board Examinations and for similar ex aminations in the Allied Health fields. Although there is now a new form of unified medical examination, NMSLE Stage 1, the basic knowledge required to pass the biochemistry portion of this examination has not changed to any marked degree. Two new chapters have been included that were not present in the first edi tion: Membranes and a chapter on Recombinant DNA Technology as related to medicine. The chapter on Genetic Diseases has been discontinued with the genetic now dispersed through the individual chapters information previously covered where appropriate. Each chapter has been carefully revised and rewritten where necessary and updated with the advent of new information. We have changed the question types that are included at the end of each chapter to conform more closely to the format now used in NMSLE examinations. As a general rule, words or other concepts which we consider to be of special importance have been por trayed in bold type, significant enzymes are in italics.
