Sepulchrum Domini through the Ages
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 57.00 $Throughout the centuries, commemoration of the events happened at Golgotha has been given form and expression in Western European Christian tradition in two different ways: through the visual arts (architecture and sculpture), and within the liturgy. development of the Holy Sepulchre as a central theme within the tradition of Western European Christianity. Its aim is to cover both representation and function. Two lines are followed in the study, corresponding to these two aspects. The first analyses the historical development of the Holy Sepulchre in its many manifestations from late Antiquity up to the present day, with particular attention to the cultural and historic context. This section is well illustrated with over a hundred photographs (partly in colour) and many ground-plans. The second section consists of an analysis of the use of the Holy Sepulchre throughout the centuries, including a description of the liturgical function of the Easter sepulchre during the Holy Week and Easter, and its role in worship. The final chapter presents the main areas in which various aspects of manifestations and function complement each other. (Peeters 2001)

Anno Domini LXX: In the year of our Lord 70
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 62.92 $It is my goal in writing this novel to show that the Jewish/Roman historian, Flavius Josephus in his book, The Wars of the Jews or The History of the Destruction of Jerusalem actually recorded evidence of the fulfillment of biblical prophecy culminating in the total leveling of the temple which validates the Preterist position. He recorded that a judgment such as the world had never seen came upon Judea, Jerusalem and the Temple in AD 70 (The Wars, Book VI, Chapter 9, Sections 428, 429). Elsewhere, he noted that Rome devastated the country, leveled Jerusalem, and destroyed and desolated the temple (The Wars, Book VI, Chapter 10, Section 442). This novel has been written to be as close to both biblical and secular history as possible. Sometimes events have been modified for effect. But the main characters: Josephus, Vespasian, Nero, Titus and Nicanor are real people that played a role in the history of the first century. Among the biblical characters: Jesus, Peter, Paul, and John are real. The main character, Benjamin, is a fictional creation. He is a Jew who believed in Jesus as the Messiah and who mistakenly fights against Rome. He survives both the siege of Jotapata and the murder/suicide pact created by Josephus – a sort of first century “Every Man” caught up in those age-changing whirlwind events.

Verbum Domini: The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 5.87 $Pope Benedict XVI says the word of God “draws each of us into a conversation with the Lord: the God who speaks teaches us how to speak to him.” In this apostolic exhortation—an extended reflection on the work of the Bishops’ Synod on the Word of God in 2008—the Holy Father affirms that the word of God is at the heart of our faith and at the heart of every activity in the Church. He calls for an increased emphasis on the Bible in catechesis and pastoral work, and recommends lectio divina, or prayerful reading of Scripture, so that all believers can encounter Christ in his the living word. And because the Church by its nature is missionary, what we have received through the word we must proclaim to the world. “With this Apostolic Exhortation,” Pope Benedict writes, “I would like the work of the Synod to have a real effect on the life of the Church: on our personal relationship with the sacred Scriptures, on their interpretation in the liturgy and catechesis, and in scientific research, so that the Bible may not be simply a word from the past, but a living and timely word” (Verbum Domini, 5). “With the Synod Fathers I express my heartfelt hope for the flowering of ‘a new season of greater love for sacred Scripture on the part of every member of the People of God, so that their prayerful and faith-filled reading of the Bible will, with time, deepen their personal relationship with Jesus.’” —Verbum Domini, 72

Madonna Anno Domini: Poems
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 29.22 $Jorie Graham claims Clover's poetry as "a poetic manifesto as well as a prayer-book for the millennial generation." Winner of the 1996 Walt Whitman Award of the Academy of American Poets, the poetry collection says more about the state of art in American poetry than it illuminates its subject matter which deftly jumps from referencing death camps to Rodney King. The language is beautiful, delirious, a little hallucinatory, and so, finally, in love with itself that it fails to touch any one of its subjects deeply. Yes, profoundly postmodern, a virtual world of accidental information with very little understanding of knowledge's depths. Paper edition (unseen), $11.95. Novum Testamentum Domini Nostri Jesu Christi (Classic Reprint)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 21.67 $Excerpt from Novum Testamentum Domini Nostri Jesu Christi Of the work itself it is hardly necessary to speak. Its publi cation was suggested by the favor with which the author's lectures on the Epistles were received at the Academy of Lausanne. The translation thus heralded was received With a favor which with Protet Christians it has never lost. Several editions were published during the lifetime of Beza, to which he made such irnprovernents as his attention was directed to, or as were prompted by his familiarity, as Greek Professor, with the origi nal. Since 1556, when it first appeared at Geneva, this work has kept its place in the general esteem; while more recent versions have been so strongly tinged with the peculiarities of the translators as to make them acceptable to particular classes only. The Editor has exerted himself to render the present edition, by its superior accuracy and neatness, worthy of pa nonage; and the Publishers flatter themselves that the pains boston - ed will insure for it a preference over any other edition. Life and Death in a Venetian Convent: The Chronicle and Necrology of Corpus Domini, 1395-1436 (The Other Voice in Early Modern Europe)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 36.45 $These works by Sister Bartolomea Riccoboni offer an intimate portrait of the women who inhabited the Venetian convent of Corpus Domini, where they shared a religious life bounded physically by the convent wall and organized temporally by the rhythms of work and worship. At the same time, they show how this cloistered community vibrated with news of the great ecclesiastical events of the day, such as the Great Western Schism and the Council of Constance. While the chronicle recounts the history of the nuns' collective life, the necrology provides highly individualized biographies of nearly fifty women who died in the convent between 1395 and 1436. We follow the fascinating stories that led these women, from adolescent girls to elderly widows, to join the convent; and we learn of their cultural backgrounds and intellectual accomplishments, their ascetic practices and mystical visions, their charity and devotion to each other and their fortitude in the face of illness and death. The personal and social meaning of religious devotion comes alive in these texts, the first of their kind to be translated into English.

Fingergull: In Festo Susceptionis Sanguinis Domini
Vendor: Deepdiscount.com Price: 22.99 $ (+1.99 $)The blood of our Lord Jesus Christ came to Nidaros. With these words the Icelandic Annales regii of the year 1165 recorded the arrival of a drop of Christ's blood in Nidaros, today known as as Trondheim in Norway. As often occurred with important saints' relics, Christ's holy blood and it's arrival in Trondheim became the central theme of an ecclesiastical feast. This feast was called Susceptio sanguinis and was celebrated annually on September 12th. Today the Nidaros holy blood relic has disapp
